SVS SB-1000 Pro: A dynamic and powerful subwoofer

SVS SB 1000 Pro 1

The SB-1000 and PB-1000 active subwoofers have gained immense popularity within the SVS lineup, and now it is time to elevate the 1000 series to the Pro standard. The latest iteration of subwoofers in this series features notable enhancements in the bass driver design, integrated amplifier, and cabinet construction. Furthermore, these new models come with a sound calibration system derived from the advanced 16 Ultra model, which can be managed through a mobile application via Bluetooth connectivity.

The latest SVS 1000 Pro series subwoofers utilize the robust Sledge STA-325D amplifier, which features output stages constructed with field-effect MOSFETs designed to deliver a substantial output current. This amplifier offers a continuous power rating of 325 watts, with peak capabilities reaching 820 watts, all while maintaining low distortion levels. For signal processing, a 50-MHz DSP from Analog Devices is employed, incorporating 56-bit filtering. This advanced computing power ensures exceptional sound quality tailored to the unique acoustic characteristics of the environment.

The dynamic drivers in the SVS 1000 Pro subwoofers were nearly entirely reengineered for this new series. The driver design incorporates a dual ferrite magnet and a parabolic suspension paired with a long-stroke aluminum cone, which facilitates the achievement of high sound pressure levels within the listening environment, allowing for significant excursions that enhance room pressure.

When a subwoofer housed in a sealed enclosure is paired with a robust amplifier and a premium speaker, it can deliver profound and articulate bass. However, this is contingent upon effective management of the system. To address this, the SVS SB-1000 Pro features a powerful digital signal processor (DSP) that can be managed through applications available for both iOS and Android. This setup includes all the necessary adjustments to optimize bass performance from the subwoofer.

The SVS SB-1000 subwoofer can be considered versatile due to its impressive specifications. Featuring a 12-inch driver and 300 watts of power, it is suitable for various room sizes. In larger cinema environments, additional subwoofers can be added to enhance the bass experience, which is already substantial for movie playback. Another significant aspect is the model’s dimensions; with a cube shape measuring 34 cm on each side, it remains compact for a subwoofer that operates down to 24 Hz. Notably, 34 cm translates to roughly 13 inches, meaning the 12-inch driver nearly fills the front panel. Furthermore, its long-stroke design contributes to a high sound pressure level.

A significant consideration is that small speakers typically feature a long working stroke when used in a bass-reflex enclosure. In contrast, larger drivers, such as those measuring 12 inches, are generally designed with a short stroke in closed acoustic systems to enhance bass control. Here, the manufacturers aimed to merge high efficiency with compact size, resulting in an unconventional hybrid design. The key challenge in this scenario is to maintain the benefits of both design philosophies.

The SVS SB-1000 Pro emitter is equipped with two robust high-quality ferrite magnets, a magnetic system designed with a field in the gap, an extended voice coil, and a rubber suspension that allows for significant movement to reduce distortion. Additionally, the magnetic system incorporates a through hole to facilitate air removal from beneath the central section of the diffuser, thereby minimizing compression.

The Sledge STA-325D amplifier, designed with a class D architecture, delivers 325 watts during standard operation and exceeds 800 watts at peak performance. It features an integrated digital processor that optimally aligns the speaker with the enclosure, ensuring a linear output response. The controls for volume, frequency, and phase are designed to operate within a digital framework. The SB-1000 Pro is equipped with a comprehensive array of inputs, including stereo low-level and LFE, as well as a combined low-level input. Additionally, it offers a stereo low-level output with a fixed cutoff frequency of 80 Hz, which facilitates the reduction of load on the power amplifier when a processor is not utilized in the system.

The SVS SB-1000 Pro subwoofer features a switchable automatic standby mode and a trigger input, allowing for seamless integration into an automation system. In standby mode, it consumes only 0.5 W, eliminating the need to completely power down the system after each use. Its robust and sturdy construction presents a sleek and compact appearance. The rounded edges and grill design ensure it blends effortlessly into any decor, drawing minimal attention. The sole indicator of its presence in a dimly lit room is a bright blue LED that shines through the grill fabric, while the grill itself is securely fastened to the subwoofer body.

Nice to know specs, technology, but I also want to know selling price. There are so many similar subwoofers by other well respected companies, that is the only way to compare
Can’t touch or hear while reading.
If companies are worried about losing a customer due to price, then so be it.
But maybe it’s a small stretch and bingo, you have a sale
