British loudspeaker manufacturer PMC has introduced the Prophecy product line, featuring five home loudspeakers that the designers assert establish new benchmarks in both sound quality and design. This collection includes three floor-standing models, a stand-mount option, and a center channel speaker.
PMC Prophecy: LaminairX technology
At the heart of the Prophecy Series is an evolution of PMC’s signature Laminair technology, now enhanced as LaminairX. This technology reduces turbulence and harmonic distortion, resulting in a cleaner sound with precise bass timing and dynamic range. Integrated into the speaker’s aluminum base, the aerodynamic vent serves the dual purpose of grounding the speaker for better control, and improving acoustic performance.
The Prophecy Series reflects PMC’s holistic approach, where every design element, i.e. drivers, crossovers, cabinets and waveguides, is considered to create speakers that work in harmony. This method ensures consistent tonal quality across all models.
Each speaker features custom-made long-throw woofers tuned to PMC’s Advanced Transmission Line (ATL) technology, delivering deep, uncolored bass. The drivers’ lightweight mica-filled cones provide optimum rigidity and responsiveness. High frequencies are handled by a 26-millimeter soft-dome tweeter that has a proven track record in professional studio monitors. The three-way models feature a 55-millimeter soft-dome midrange driver.
PMC Prophecy: drivers and crossover
The drivers are connected via PMC’s renowned high-order, steep roll-off crossover design. The military-spec printed circuit board with ultra-thick copper traces and gold plating ensures unrestricted current flow and increased reliability. Careful component selection, precise matching and optimized positioning ensure low component interaction and low coloration. The steep filter slopes ensure that each driver operates within its optimum range and presents excellent off-axis response for a wide listening window.
PMC has incorporated sustainability into the Prophecy series, using veneers sourced from sustainably managed forests and minimally invasive finishing techniques for a modern aesthetic. The packaging has been redesigned to replace polystyrene with recyclable cardboard and plastic with fabric bags, reducing the impact on the environment.
The cover grilles, held in place with hidden magnets and the custom-made open-weave, structured fabric, complete the aesthetics of the members of the Prophecy product line. The Prophecy series will be available worldwide from February 1, 2025.
