The British loudspeaker manufacturer has introduced a new line of active subwoofers named Vestra. These subwoofers are offered in three sizes and come in matte white and matte black finishes. The W10, W12, and W15 models of the Vestra series have been developed in collaboration with Monitor Audio’s esteemed and recently unveiled premium Anthra Series subwoofers. They incorporate an acoustic package that allows Monitor Audio to uphold its ‘Transparent Design Philosophy.’ This philosophy merges exceptional design features, a user-friendly experience, and cutting-edge acoustic engineering, ensuring that performance, technology, and design elements function seamlessly together.
Monitor Audio Vestra: C-CAM bass drivers with high linear excursion
Monitor Audio has been at the forefront of metal cone driver technology for nearly four decades. Vestra subwoofers utilize Monitor Audio’s patented C-CAM (Ceramic-Coated Aluminum Magnesium) cone technology, a cone technology ideally suited for subwoofers. The properties of C-CAM result in a cone that exhibits less fatigue, is stronger, and is lighter. The result is a cone material that, under extreme loads, provides far greater pistonic movement than standard aluminum cones.
Behind the C-CAM cones are powerful new motor systems, featuring triple suspension (W12 and W15), improved venting and larger, round-wound voice coils made from high-purity copper wire. The suspension provides greater control and precision at extremely low frequencies, the venting supports increased airflow, reducing unwanted heat, and the larger voice coil delivers the highest possible BI (field strength). FEA optimisation of the steel components also helps linearise the BI curve – this results in improved consistency of the magnetic field through the gap, reducing distortion.
The C-CAM bass driver surround has also been carefully optimised. It allows for the largest possible cone area, which controls the excursion without over-extension and distortion or break-up. The result of this carefully designed, high linear excursion bass driver is that Vestra subwoofers deliver exceptional bass response, with speed, agility, total control and total power, guaranteeing musicality and depth.
Monitor Audio Vestra: powerful amplification
Behind the high linear excursion C-CAM bass driver is a powerful Class D amplifier. 250 Watts powers the Vestra W10, while a 500 Watt Class D amplifier powers the Vestra W12 and W15. Both are optimized and configured for the driver and speaker system.
The amplifiers and their power supplies are carefully matched to work together for greater efficiency and reduced distortion. DSP with three preset modes allows for a degree of personalisation. All the usual connections are provided, as well as a 12 Volt trigger connection.
Monitor Audio Vestra: housing
The Vestra subwoofer cabinets are meticulously crafted for both aesthetic elegance and acoustic performance. Constructed from sturdy, reinforced and braced 15mm thick MDF, they are finished in contemporary black or white vinyl, with 21mm thick matt lacquered front baffles. Internal bracing provides stability and enhances sonic precision. Each cabinet minimizes unwanted resonance, delivering pure, undistorted bass with deep resonance.
The W10 and W12 models feature a fully sealed enclosure, ideal for versatile placements, while the larger W15 uses a port design that extends the low frequencies even further for maximum bass slam.
