Lyngdorf Audio has introduced a new floorstanding speaker, the FR-2. This model is uniquely engineered for wall placement, facilitating optimal visual and acoustic integration within a room. The speaker is specifically calibrated to deliver superior sound quality when positioned near a wall. Additionally, its slim cabinet design, along with a variety of color and fabric options, enables seamless incorporation into contemporary living spaces.
Lyngdorf FR-2
Denmark-based Lyngdorf Audio is known for its digital amplifiers, multichannel processors, and RoomPerfect calibration. The FR-2 is the company’s 18th model in its current loudspeaker and subwoofer portfolio. FR stands for Full Range, and the FR-2 is the company’s second full-range on-wall speaker model, following the FR-1. The FR-2 also marks a new era for establishing Lyngdorf Audio’s new in-house cabinet manufacturing and lacquering in Denmark. The FR-2 will make its premiere at the Audio Video Show 2024 in Warsaw, Poland.
Lyngdorf FR-2: best sound performance by placing it against the wall
The FR-2’s drivers are integrated into an unusually shallow speaker design that works with the room’s acoustics rather than against them. The FR-2 is specifically tuned for in-wall placement, with the woofers positioned as close to the wall behind the speaker as possible. This provides ideal low-frequency impulse response, resulting in surprisingly tight, powerful bass unheard of in most freestanding speakers.
High-quality woofers and tweeters
The FR-2’s two high-quality woofers with a diameter of 18 cm are equipped with a stiff, vented die-cast basket, an extra strong and large magnet and a very light aluminium cone, while the soft-dome tweeter also uses an extra powerful magnet. This results in the highest efficiency and a high maximum volume level, while keeping distortion low. The very linear impedance (approx. 4 Ohm) ensures that every amplifier performs optimally. The bass reflex port is positioned downwards, so that it is out of sight and acoustically always maintains the same ideal distance to the floor boundary and the edge of the wall.
Lyngdof FR-2: modern colours and interchangeable fabric covers
The FR-2 is not only tuned for the best sound performance close to a wall, it is also shaped for this purpose. The speaker is unusually shallow, while the smooth, rounded edges, the front baffle that flows into the top, three modern satin-matt colour options and two optional interchangeable fabric covers from Danish specialist Gabriel ensure that the FR-2 fits into any living room. The speaker can stand on the floor or use the optional wall mount for the smallest footprint. The FR-2 cabinet is made and painted in-house at Lyngdorf Audio’s new cabinet factory in Denmark.
Production of the FR-2 will begin in November 2024 at Lyngdorf Audio in Skive, Denmark. Pricing information has yet to be announced.
