Fyne Audio has launched the S-Trax super tweeter. According to the company, Fyne Audio’s new S-Trax super tweeter promises to offer all the benefits of its acclaimed SuperTrax omnidirectional UHF technology in a more compact, affordable, and universal form factor. The S-Trax super tweeter can complement a wide range of loudspeakers, including models from manufacturers other than Fyne Audio.

The new S-Trax is specifically designed for audiophiles who want the very best sound from their speakers. Cost savings have apparently been achieved through a simplified cabinet and satin black finish, as well as the use of less esoteric components compared to its flagship SuperTrax .

The S-Trax is designed to extend frequency response far beyond the limits of human hearing while ensuring effortless integration with a wide range of systems. Fyne Audio’s Anji Sosna says: “The S-Trax is designed to deliver the same sense of openness, airiness, and realism that earned the SuperTrax so much acclaim, but in a form factor that more enthusiasts can use and apply to their existing systems. Like our flagship SuperTrax, the S-Trax is all about putting the science of high-frequency fidelity at the service of the art of listening.”
The tweeter, centered around an upward-firing 25mm magnesium dome driven by a powerful neodymium magnet system, is perfectly aligned with a patented Tractrix profile diffuser above it, which radiates RF energy evenly throughout the room in a 360-degree pattern. Fyne says this more accurately mimics the sound dispersion of real instruments than the narrowly focused RF beam of a forward-firing tweeter.
The design extends the system’s frequency response beyond 50 kHz (-6 dB in a room), which, according to the designers, improves the transient response, spaciousness, and textural detail of the reproduced music without altering the system’s underlying tonal balance. As a result, the phase relationship of instruments within the audio band is more accurately reproduced, recovering otherwise lost high-frequency harmonic information and enhancing the timbre of the reproduced music.

Furthermore, according to the manufacturer, S-Trax also reduces phase error in the high frequencies, resulting in a more coherent and transparent sound when the S-Trax is carefully positioned so that it is aligned with the acoustic centre of Fyne Audio’s IsoFlare driver or the tweeter on a typical discrete loudspeaker system.
To ensure compatibility with a wide range of speakers, the 79 x 82 x 149 millimeter, one kilogram S-Trax is designed to sit discreetly on virtually any flat speaker. Fyne has developed a 3rd order high-pass crossover set at 16 kHz. The S-Trax operates purely in the super-high frequency domain, with a fine-tuning gain of +/- 4.5 dB to complement the tweeter located within the speaker.

Built in Fyne’s new Glasgow factory, the S-Trax also benefits from Fyne’s proprietary CryoLite Deep Cryogenic Treatment, which minimizes micro-distortions and maintains signal purity in the internal wiring. Furthermore, the unit is equipped with Fyne’s anti-RFI grounding clamp to ensure that fine details aren’t obscured by electromagnetic interference from nearby electronics.
