Luxman P-750u: Headphone amplifier with uncompromising design and impeccable sound

Pasted

Luxman P-750u is a headphone amplifier that represents the flagship model in the Luxman catalog and has uncompromising design and impeccable sound. Unlike most similar devices, the amplifier is made in a metal case with a standard width for Hi-F components, which will allow it to fit perfectly into an existing set of audio equipment. At the same time, the low height of the device will ensure its easy installation even in the case of limited free space in the rack. It can be noted that the weight of this model is 12.7 kg, which is comparable to this figure for most integrated amplifiers, and indirectly indicates the solidity of its design.

On the front panel of the Luxman P-750u amplifier, made of aluminum, there are balanced and unbalanced outputs for connecting headphones, as well as a full set of controls, including a stereo balance control, rarely found in models of this class, but a very useful one. There is also an input switch, of which the Luxman P-750u has three – two balanced and one unbalanced. Also, using a separate switch, you can adjust the gain of the device depending on the sensitivity of the connected headphones. All switching in the amplifier is made on the basis of precision relays, which ensures accurate transmission of the audio signal.

The Luxman P-750u headphone amplifier has a true balanced circuit, while the amplification part of the device is made according to the dual mono principle. The unit uses a proprietary negative coupling designed to reduce distortion only (ODNF) and does not degrade its phase-frequency characteristics. Luxman P-750u develops increased output power, which is up to 8 W per channel with a balanced connection (load resistance 16 Ohms). The amplifier is designed to work with headphones with an impedance of up to 600 Ohms, which makes it compatible with any models (except electrostats) on the market. The P-750u’s signature Luxman sound with a wide dynamic range and accurate scene definition will surely appeal to many music lovers.

Luxman P-750u 2.jpg

The most important thing is that the Luxman P-750u sounds absolutely neutral and is able to get the most out of any “ears”. We tried headphones of different price categories that we were familiar with, and in all cases with Luxman their potential was fully revealed. Well, if you use models like the Beyerdynamic T-1p or AKG Q701, you are guaranteed immersion into the soundtrack, rare in terms of the amount of information and reliability. Whether you’re listening to a contemporary piece like Elgar’s Enigma (performed by the Cincinnati Orchestra under Paavo Järvi) or archival recordings of Bach’s Goldberg Variations (Wanda Landowska), the atmosphere of the musical event will completely absorb you. However, outstanding clarity also has a downside – if instruments are recorded large and bright, which even classical music is guilty of today, then the sound can become unnecessarily harsh and tiring. And this despite the fact that the bass register of the Luxman P-750u is unusually full, and the amplifier is not at all inclined to gather performers in the center of your head. On the other hand, if you want to experience such nuances, whether the original SACD soundtrack was originally recorded in PCM or DSD, or evaluate the quality of digitization of analog recordings, it is difficult to do anything better than the Luxman with modern reference-grade headphones.
