Luxman L-505uX Mark II: A new standard among integrated amplifiers

Luxman L-505uX Mark II
Luxman L-505uX Mark II

The integrated amplifier Luxman L-505uX Mark II is a direct successor to the L-505uX released more than 6 years ago, which at one time won the love of many audio fans. Working in the AB class, Luxman L505uXll absorbed all the achievements of previous models and was reborn as the Mark ll version – with improved sound quality based on the latest and proven LUXMAN technologies, such as proprietary negative feedback, acting only on distortion (Only Distortion Negative Feedback) – ODNF, high slew rate, vanishingly low distortion and wide frequency range.

The Luxman L-505uX Mark II is made in Japan and features the latest version of the company’s proprietary negative feedback circuit, ODNF4.0, with improved high-frequency performance and reduced output impedance. The preamplifier’s output stage features the same discrete buffer circuitry as the flagship C-900u, improving the ability to drive the power amp section efficiently while maintaining the purity of delicate music signals.

The precision electronically controlled attenuator LECUA (LUXMAN Electronically Controlled Attenuator) eliminates the mismatch between the levels of the right and left channels and significantly improves sound quality compared to conventional resistor volume controls. A power supply based on an W-shaped transformer and four storage capacitors with a capacity of 10,000 μF each provides 100 W per channel to any speakers with an impedance of 8 Ohms.

The Luxman L-505uX Mark II amplifier has a fully symmetrical dual-mono design, and its power supply contains a transformer with separate secondary windings for different circuits. The rectifier is made of high-speed Schottky diodes, and four capacitors with a capacity of 10 thousand uF are used to filter the supply voltage, which creates the necessary energy reserve to ensure a wide dynamic range of sound, and good compatibility with various types of acoustics. The device develops an output power of 2 x 100 W when connecting 8-ohm speakers, and to stabilize its characteristics and reduce the level of distortion, patented ODNF feedback version 4.0 is used, which does not have a negative impact on the sound characteristics. At the output of the Luxman L-505uX Mark II, selected push-pull bipolar transistors are installed.

The volume control in the amplifier is based on another proprietary technology, LECUA, which guarantees the accuracy of signal level changes with a minimum level of noise and distortion. The amplifier has four line inputs and one recorder output, an MM/MC pickup input, and one balanced input. There is also a preamplifier output and a direct power amplifier input, allowing the device to be used in home theater systems, or for connecting speakers using a bi-amping scheme.

The Luxman L-505uX Mark II amplifier can connect two pairs of speakers, which can be listened to either separately or simultaneously (observing the limitations on their impedance). On the front panel of the device there are two large dial indicators of output power with switchable backlighting, as well as a full set of controls, including tone controls in the low and high frequencies.

Luxman L-505uX Mark II really claims to be a new level of excellence and is going to become a new standard among integrated amplifiers in this category, exceeding the requirements for them in all criteria.
