We have previously reported on Harman’s plans to acquire several of the largest hi-fi brands globally, which are part of the Sound United holding company. Now, the acquisition is finalized. The company has gained control over Masimo’s (Sound United) audio brand portfolio, which features prestigious names in the audio industry such as Bowers & Wilkins, Denon, Marantz, Polk Audio, Definitive Technology, Classé, HEOS, and Boston Acoustics. Additionally, Harman, owned by Samsung Electronics since 2016, already possesses the Arcam, AKG, JBL, Mark Levinson, and Revel brands.

Harman currently boasts an extensive portfolio spanning various audio categories, including home audio, electronics, headphones, and car audio systems. This agreement was initially revealed in May of this year.
“Harman’s vision is to craft experiences that enhance people’s lives through outstanding sound,” stated Dave Rogers, president of Harman’s Lifestyle division. “Sound United’s remarkable collection of brands is founded on a profound passion for sound, innovation, and a dedication to quality—principles that resonate with Harman’s values.”
Customers will not experience any immediate changes, as Sound United will function as an independent strategic business unit (SBU) within Harman’s Lifestyle division. This indicates that “the heritage, expertise, and loyal customer base of each brand will continue to be central to their identity.
However, with the added resources from Harman, the new brands “will enjoy a wider reach and enhanced capabilities, while still pursuing their individual objectives and competing more effectively in the market.”
In 2020, the American medical device firm Masimo purchased Bowers & Wilkins, along with eight additional audio brands from the Sound United portfolio three years ago. It is hoped that Harman will offer the essential stability required for these brands to flourish.
