Sonic Lamb Rapture: Headphones that complement sound with vibration

Sonic Lamb Rapture
Sonic Lamb Rapture

Indian Sonic Lamb announced the release of Rapture headphones whose ear pads vibrate at lower base frequencies. The company claims that these are the world’s first headphones with a patented hybrid driver acoustics that combines air and body conduction “to not only hear the music, but to feel it.”

Created by mechanical and electronics engineers Navajith Karkera and Jagath Biddappa, the Rapture headphones use patented Hybrid Driver Acoustics to allow music to be heard through both the ears and the body. It essentially emulates a subwoofer.

The technology uses a full-range audio driver for mid and high frequencies. The patented driver also converts the audio signal into mechanical impulses and uses the ear pads as a diaphragm. These mechanical impulses are transmitted from the ear pads to the listener’s skin and bones, adding to the sensation of the music. Additionally, Sonic Lamb Rapture can be used wirelessly with support for aptX, aptX HD, etc.

The system also features an on-ear control interface that offers four personalization modes: Hear, Feel, Immerse and Beast. The Sonic Lamb Rapture headphones are equipped with two built-in microphones. One is designed to capture the user’s voice, while the other is designed to suppress any ambient noise for clearer calls and chats. The headphones also come with a detachable boom microphone for improved voice quality during important meetings or gaming sessions. The battery life of Sonic Lamb’s Rapture ranges from 6 to 30 hours.
