Asus has released new wireless headphones designed specifically for gaming. Except they’re not just wireless, as inside the box is a cable that attaches to the headphones and adds a four-channel DAC, giving you the choice of how you listen. Called the Asus ROG Cetra True Wireless Pro , they are designed for those who want a gaming experience, convenience and audiophile quality.
Audiophile quality wireless headphones? Yes. The ROG Cetra uses a pair of 10mm speakers and supports Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Sound platform with AptX Lossless for 24-bit, 96kHz CD-quality audio, making it one of the first in this combination, along with the NuraTrue Pro headphones . Is this not enough for you? This is where the cable comes in handy. Switch from the Bluetooth connection to the included USB Type-C cable and it adds the ESS 9280 Quad DAC that Asus also uses in the ROG Fusion II 300 USB headset, ready to deliver great sound without any lag.
In terms of latency, Asus claims that when using the ROG Cetra paired with the ROG Phone 6 or ROG Phone 6 Pro, the latency drops to 45ms, making them ideal for gaming. Wired mode features a noise-cancelling microphone designed to isolate your voice even in windy conditions, and active noise cancellation (ANC) works when connected via Bluetooth. Asus has added a few special modes, including one that does a better job of reducing wind noise. Other features include touch controls and access to your phone’s voice assistant, as well as IPX4 splash resistance, allowing you to use them in the rain without worrying about sweat.
Asus claims the battery will last seven hours or 21 hours without ANC, or four and a half hours or 13 hours with ANC enabled. The case has a 10-minute fast charging function, which adds an hour and a half of headphone battery life.
The Republic of Gamers branding leaves no doubt that the ROG Cetra is made specifically for gamers, but the audio technology used in it means that it can also appeal to anyone who prefers great sound.
