PS Audio has introduced a new digital-to-analog converter known as the Stellar DAC. This device boasts a range of premium features, such as PS Audio’s proprietary Digital Lens technology, I2S inputs, and a Class A output stage, among other enhancements, all designed to provide an authentic musical experience and exceptional sound reproduction. Additionally, the Stellar DAC includes integrated volume control, allowing it to be connected directly to a power amplifier if preferred.
The PS Audio Stellar DAC is equipped with a top-tier ESS Sabre 32-bit Hyperstream DAC chip, the ES9018K2M, enhanced by PS Audio’s proprietary Digital Lens technology. This technology identifies the sample rate, re-clocks the data, minimizes jitter, and performs additional processing. In conjunction with this innovative front end, the Stellar DAC features a hybrid balanced Class A analog output stage and a robust, oversized analog power supply. To achieve the highest level of sonic clarity, the output signal path is designed without capacitors. The result is a rich and immersive musical experience, characterized by precise tonal balance and exceptional resolution, imaging, presence, and depth, as stated on the PS Audio website.
The Stellar DAC is compatible with a wide range of digital sources, accommodating PCM as well as single and double rate DSD, with sample rates reaching up to 384 kHz and supporting native DSD256 (DSD direct is accessible through the I2S connection). It includes two I2S inputs, two coaxial inputs, one optical digital input, and a USB port. This versatility allows for optimal connections with virtually any digital source, including computers, CD players, and network streamers. Additionally, the Stellar DAC provides both balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA outputs.
A variety of digital filters can be selected, enabling users to customize the audio experience according to their individual tastes. The device is designed for easy setup and operation, featuring an intuitive front panel and menu, along with a comprehensive remote control that can also manage other PS Audio products.
The Stellar DAC measures 43.2 x 30.4 x 7.6 centimeters and has a weight of 11.8 kilograms, available in both silver and black finishes. Pricing details have not yet been disclosed.
