Degritter Mark II: Record cleaning machine with ultrasonic technology

Degritter Mark II
Degritter Mark II

The Degritter Mark II is a compact and efficient record cleaning machine designed for ease of use. It employs an automatic cleaning cycle that utilizes both liquid and ultrasonic technology, ensuring a thorough clean. The manufacturer emphasizes its straightforward operation, and it features two removable liquid reservoirs, each with a capacity of 1.4 liters.

Originating from Estonia, the Mark II incorporates an ultrasonic cleaning system that operates at a frequency of 120 kHz. It is equipped with dual cleaning heads positioned on either side of the record, allowing for comprehensive cleaning while preserving the integrity of the record’s surface.

Ultrasonic cleaning operates by generating numerous microscopic bubbles within the cleaning solution, a process known as “cavitation.” This phenomenon occurs due to high-frequency pressure waves traveling through the water, creating a vacuum that forms the bubbles. As the ultrasonic cycles continue, these bubbles repeatedly form and collapse, releasing energy as heat and producing tiny, forceful jets of water. The synergistic effects of these actions ensure a comprehensive cleaning of all surfaces, even at a microscopic scale, as explained by the manufacturer based in Estonia.

The Degritter Mark II operates automatically, eliminating the need for any manual intervention once the cleaning cycle begins. It is equipped with a user-friendly removable water tank. Additionally, the Degritter Mark II introduces an innovative Pulse Mode for cleaning. In this mode, the ultrasonic transducers rapidly alternate between on and off states at high power, enhancing cavitation in the water while maintaining a low average power consumption.

A frequency of 120 kHz offers a more precise and uniformly distributed cleaning effect compared to systems operating at lower frequencies. This technology is even utilized at higher frequencies for cleaning components in the semiconductor sector, where cleanliness at a molecular level is essential.

Active filtration is implemented by circulating cleaning water through a replaceable filter during the washing process. It is advisable to use distilled water along with 1-2 ml of cleaning solution per cycle, with a 100 ml bottle provided. High temperatures are regulated through an automatic cooling system. Records are dried using a stream of filtered air, and both the drying duration and fan speed can be modified to manage noise levels, which are specified to range between 50 and 70 dB, also to mitigate static electricity accumulation.

Degritter Mark II, anodized in black or silver: 2,599 euros
Degritter Mark II, powder-coated in black or silver: 2,890 euros.
