Benny Audio Odyssey: High-quality turntable priced at $30.000

BENNY AUDIO ODYSSEY
BENNY AUDIO ODYSSEY

Benny Audio was founded in 2017 and is based in Gliwice, Poland. The new turntable Odyssey, a prototype in 2023, was on display at the High End audio fair in Munich and has now been officially put into production. Anyone who orders the turntable will have to be patient for a while.

Beeny Audio Odyssey

According to Tomasz Franielczyk, head of Benny Audio , the Odyssey turntable is “the result of more than seven years of research and experience. It is a turntable that has been built from scratch. The main goal was to create a turntable that would surpass its older brother (that is the Immersion II) in every respect. The drive system, the platter bearings and the platter itself, the plinth along with the base and the 14-inch tonearm have all been redesigned from the ground up, according to Benny Audio.

The Benny Audio Odyssey has a three-layer plinth. The turntable consists of three layers. The top layer of the upper plateau has a diameter of 300 millimeters, is made of black Delrin and weighs approximately five kilograms. The middle plateau, which also has a diameter of 300 millimeters, weighs eight kilograms and is made of steel and the bottom plateau is a disk with a diameter of 200 millimeters that weighs four kilograms. The plinth, made of sturdy aluminum and polyacetal, forms a base that would stop unwanted vibrations, with the layer of POM (polyoxymethylene) specifically intended to keep the bearing and turntable free of vibrations. The base of the Odyssey is made of aluminum base and stands on vibration-damping legs with inverted porcelain cups.

The Odyssey’s main bearing features a hydrodynamic inverted bushing, YG8 10-millimeter sintered carbide ball, POM base and aluminum housing. The core is a 15 millimeter shaft made of hardened steel. Each bearing and shaft is polished by hand. The top-fill oil system uses high-viscosity synthetic oil, and the company recommends refilling the oil every three years.

The drive system is a powerful BLDC motor (3-phase, 8-pole, 20 Watts), controlled by a Swiss-designed driver and controlled by Benny Audio’s own custom-programmed microcontroller. The drive includes a high-precision pulley, soft start and stop, continuous speed control via an open-loop system that monitors and adjusts the platter speed after each revolution, adaptive speed correction, smooth torque adjustment, customizable backlighting and a rotary switch.

The Odyssey’s long 14-inch tonearm is designed to perfectly complement the turntable. By the way, it can accommodate up to three arms (8 to 14 inches), and there are four arm mounting points on the baseboard. The 14-inch arm weighs 0.52 kg, its effective mass varies between 18 grams and 30 grams, and can accommodate carbon fiber and/or titanium cartridges and headshells. The arm features silver monocrystalline wiring directly.

The dimensions of the Odyssey table are 400 x 242 x 400 mm (W x H x D) and the weight is 59 kilograms, without tonearm). Other features include a ULPS DC power supply with AC input voltage of 110 Volt or 220 Volt, DC output voltage of 12V (2-wire cable with GX16 plug).

Price: $30.000
