Sony introduced a kind of analogue of Apple Vision Pro

At a presentation held as part of CES 2024, Sony announced an extended reality (XR) headset. Unlike the PlayStation VR2, the as-yet-unnamed device is not intended for entertainment. It’s a working gadget that helps in creating “spatial content” and developing 3D content, according to a press release.

That is, Sony presented a headset on which, according to the company’s idea, content for other headsets will be created. The sales market in this case will not be as large as, for example, Apple hopes for its Vision Pro. At the same time, Sony is collaborating with Siemens to create an “immersive design system.”

The XR headset is equipped with two microOLED displays with 4K resolution. It’s not very clear from the press release whether this resolution is for one display or both. The headset runs on the recently introduced Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 platform.

Unlike Vision Pro, the XR headset is controlled using two controllers. One looks like a modified version of the PS VR2 controller, and the other looks like a ring.

The price of Sony’s XR headset has not been announced. Judging by the fact that the headset is aimed at business, the cost will be a couple of thousand dollars. The release date is also unknown, but the company claims that the release will take place this year.
