The British company Monitor Audio has introduced the sixth generation of the Gold Series acoustic systems. The Monitor Audio Gold 6G line is based on more than thirty years of Gold Series heritage and consists of six models. The new products use speakers with new technologies for producing diffusers.
HDT (Hexagonal Diaphragm Technology) is Monitor Audio’s new metal cone technology, building on the experience of creating the RDT III cones for the top-of-the-line Hyphn and flagship Platinum 3G Series. HDT adds a hexagonal pattern to the honeycomb of the Nomex cone – an aluminum sandwich with carbon fiber skins – resulting in a cone that shifts the resonant frequency up by 10% compared to the cone used in the Silver Series 7G. HDT is featured in all Monitor Audio Gold 6G Series models, and is featured in the new 3” midrange driver, 6” midrange woofer, and 6” and 8” bass drivers. Of course, Monitor Audio’s C-CAM technology is still used, which strengthens the cone and makes it less susceptible to fatigue.
The new Monitor Audio Gold 6G series also features a new version of the MPD III (Micro Pleated Diaphragm) transducer used in the Hyphn and Platinum loudspeakers. According to the manufacturer, this driver delivers more expressive reproduction of high frequencies, clarity and accuracy of delivery. Monitor Audio notes that in the new Monitor Audio Gold 6G series, the speaker cabinets have become stiffer than ever, and the upper position of the MPD III tweeter in the 100 and 500 models optimizes diffraction of the cabinet edges. Finally, the Satin White and Gloss Black finishes have been supplemented by an Ebony Veneer design.
The Monitor Audio Gold 100 6G is a large three-way bookshelf speaker capable of creating a stunning soundstage. It demonstrates deep bass, detailed midrange frequencies and realistic highs. The 8-inch HDT C-CAM woofer is ideally combined with a 3-inch midrange driver. They are harmoniously complemented by the MPD III tweeter. Installation on a Monitor Audio ST-2 stand provides even more options for placement in the listening room.
