Marantz Cinema 70s: Modern 7.2-channel AV receiver

Marantz Cinema 70s
Marantz Cinema 70s

The top 7.2-channel AV receiver in the low-profile NR line, the Marantz Cinema 70s, which replaced its predecessor NR1711, now has the ability to work with 8K resolution (60 Hz). Support is provided via three HDMI inputs out of six available. This opens up access to such modern functions and standards as HDR10+ with Dynamic Tone Mapping (support for dynamic tone mapping), Dynamic HDR, Variable Refresh Rate (VRR, eliminates delays, lags, frame breaks, etc.). etc., relevant for games), Quick Media Switching (QMS, removes the delay before the start of video playback, during which the user could see a blank screen), Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM, automatically adjusts latency settings to minimize it) and Quick Frame Transport (QFT, minimizes delays). Video broadcasting in 4K/120 Hz resolution and upscaling to 8K are also available.

The Marantz Cinema 70s model works with multi-level immersive audio formats DTS:X and Dolby Atmos (5.1.2-channel version), as well as their virtual versions DTS Virtual:X and Dolby Atmos Height Virtualization, which are relevant in the absence of specialized speakers in the system. The receiver’s discrete amplifiers provide a power of 50 W per channel at 8 ohms, and Audyssey MultEQ technology is used in conjunction with Dynamic Volume/Dynamic EQ technologies (volume/frequency response optimization) to automatically calibrate the sound of speakers in accordance with the characteristics of the room.

The Marantz Cinema 70s receiver has streamer functions with support for PCM up to 24-bit/192 kHz and DSD up to 5.6 MHz over a local network and via external USB drives. There is access to streaming services Spotify Connect, TIDAL, Deezer, TuneIn, etc. There is Bluetooth on board (audio transmission to wireless headphones is possible) and 2-band Wi-Fi. Work is available as part of the HEOS wireless multiroom ecosystem, and thanks to AirPlay 2 support, access to organizing a multiroom network based on Apple devices is available. The ability to communicate with voice assistants Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, Apple Siri, etc. is supported. The receiver is able to interact with the multifunctional audio platform Roon. Control is available via the application or the standard remote control.

The Marantz Cinema 70s receiver has 6 HDMI inputs with HDCP 2.3 support, three of which work at 8K resolution. The only HDMI output supports 8K and an expanded eARC return channel, through which broadcasts of Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, Dolby TrueHD, etc. formats are available. The model has a wide switching set. There is an MM phono input. There are S/PDIF inputs, 7.2-channel Pre Out and Pre Out for the second zone. To connect the speakers, there are 7 pairs of color-coded screw terminals.
