The McIntosh MCD600 SACD player features a state-of-the-art 8-channel, 32-bit DAC with a Quad Balanced design and the ability to handle DSD streams directly, without any pre-conversion. All PCM signals are converted to 32-bit/384 kHz before decoding. In addition to CDs and SACDs, the player can also play self-recorded CDs and DVDs, as well as USB drives containing music files. Supported formats include AAC, AIFF, ALAC, DSD (up to DSD128), FLAC, MP3, WAV (up to 24-bit/192 kHz), and WMA. The player features adjustable single and balanced outputs, allowing it to be connected directly to power amplifiers.
The turntable features fixed and adjustable outputs in both balanced and unbalanced versions. Coaxial and optical inputs/outputs, as well as a headphone output, are also on board. The styling of the new turntable is consistent with other McIntosh devices: polished steel, a black glass front panel, an illuminated logo, and metal knobs. The glass panel on the top cover features specifications and operating diagrams. The McIntosh MCD600 turntable features a higher read speed, and a large memory buffer prevents errors. It uses two laser heads that share a common focusing lens.
The McIntosh MCD600 features a stylish, signature design and a stainless steel chassis. The front panel is made of glass and features fiber-optic backlighting that complements the LEDs. Decorative aluminum inserts line the sides of the panel. The narrow, cast disc drive tray is located in the center of the front panel, and the drive itself boasts high read accuracy and quiet operation. Below is a display showing the track number, time, and other symbols. On the right side is a volume knob and a micro-display showing the volume level in percent, as well as control buttons, disc eject, and power/standby. On the left is a track selector knob, a 6.3 mm headphone jack, a mute button, source selector buttons, and buttons for selecting one of the hybrid SACD layers.
