Moondrop has launched its flagship in-ear headphones, the Moondrop Illustrious, featuring a single large dynamic driver. This new model is set to succeed the well-received Illumination model in the company’s lineup. The Moondrop Illustrious headphones utilize a patented dynamic driver that incorporates an innovative composite dome diaphragm, measuring 11 mm in diameter, coated with a TAC diamond layer. This design employs the established LCP dome diaphragm technology, enhanced by an artificial diamond layer applied through a deposition process. This diamond coating greatly enhances the dome’s rigidity and improves internal damping. Additionally, Moondrop has implemented a flexible polyurethane suspension, which significantly enhances bass dynamics.
The Moondrop Illustrious earphones are built to last, showcasing robust titanium alloy housings, a gold-plated brass outer panel, and an ergonomic design for enhanced comfort.
These in-ear headphones incorporate an innovative acoustic chamber design that efficiently eliminates standing waves and minimizes high-frequency signal diffraction. The Moondrop engineering team has calibrated the Illustrious to align with the target HRTF (Head-Related Transfer Function) diffuse field curve. Consequently, these headphones deliver a reference sound profile characterized by neutral tuning, achieved through the sophisticated B&W4128C measurement system.
