Fyne Audio

Have you heard about the new audio company Fyne Audio? An ordinary question that turns into a kind of pun when it comes to the audio equipment manufacturer. But let’s put the irony aside, because the company mentioned above is really young, which it does not hesitate to state on its official website. Honorary audiophiles are already ready to be wary, but do not rush to look at Fyne Audio as an inexperienced beginner. Are you familiar with the name Tannoy Audio ? Well, it’s time to reveal the intrigue. Fyne Audio is the product of the talented people from Tannoy. After a serious restructuring of their “alma mater”, some of the employees felt constrained in their capabilities and, not wanting to expose their creative ideas to risks, the “rebels” decided to leave the company and took with them part of the creative team, engineer Paul Mills, as well as an arsenal of their ideas and developments , accumulated over many years of work at Tannoy. Tannoy’s engineering heritage will be traced in the future products of the newly formed company, but more on that later.

In the meantime, a group of like-minded people – engineers, designers and production workers – spent some time coming up with the concept and implementing the design features of the new product. This is how the Scottish Fyne Audio appeared in such an ordinary, albeit revolutionary way. Readers familiar with the English language have probably already turned the company name over in their heads, trying to guess what the pun is in the title of the new brand. But in fact, everything is quite simple: in this case, the word “fyne” is taken from Old English, and is the direct equivalent of the word “fine” – excellent, or high quality (if you like). The development center is located near Glasgow, and production will be partially transferred to Asia; only the most expensive models of the new brand will be produced in Scotland.

And so, after some time, at the beginning of 2018, the company presented at exhibitions (and, as a result, launched for sale a little later) several lines of its new acoustics. Currently, the company’s products are represented by 4 series – F3, F300, F500 and F700, as well as a stand-alone flagship model F1-10. The F300 range, the cheapest in the Fyne Audio range, will retail from £200, which is the price of the F300 bookshelf speaker, which features a 12.5cm paper mid/bass driver and a 25mm soft dome tweeter.

The next series with the F500 index looks more interesting, since it already uses IsoFlare coaxial speakers, which refer us to the Tannoy heritage. The diffusers are made of cellulose, and the profiled suspension ensures uniform and large displacement. The tweeter here is equipped with a 25 mm titanium dome and is loaded onto a small horn with a phase-equalizing insert. The acoustic design is a bass reflex port, the port of which is located at the bottom and directed towards a conical diffuser, ensuring uniform distribution of air flow. Fyne Audio calls this system BassTrax. The F500 series speakers start at £600 for a pair of the bookshelf monitors described above.

And finally, the most expensive speakers in the company’s range – the Fyne Audio F1-10 – will cost from £20,000. They are distinguished by luxurious housings with sophisticated finishing, as well as the presence of bass and treble response controls. The IsoFlare coaxial driver has a 250mm cone for bass, and the tweeter uses a 75mm titanium diaphragm.
