Premiera A1: A strong contender for any home audio system

Premiera A1
Premiera A1

Premiera A1 is a contemporary integrated Hi-Fi stereo amplifier of class AB, featuring a built-in MM phono preamplifier, DAC, and Bluetooth connectivity, delivering a nominal output power of 51 W per channel. Its design is both understated and practical, with the front and rear panels organized in accordance with the established principles of quality electronics. The layout is intuitive and straightforward, ensuring ease of navigation. This device is free from superfluous embellishments, resembling professional-grade equipment that prioritizes user-friendliness.

There are eight potential input sources available, including a USB flash drive, which is notably higher than the typical maximum of five sources for similar devices. Additionally, the unit features two analog outputs: one for stereo and another for mono, specifically designed for an active subwoofer. The display on the Premiera A1 is user-friendly, with a control menu that clearly outlines the amplifier’s capabilities. Within this menu, users can activate loudness compensation, disable the tone control, adjust the brightness of the display and buttons, perform software updates, and restore factory settings if needed. Once you familiarize yourself with the settings and features, they will become second nature. The intuitive encoder and remote control facilitate easy navigation through the menu—after all, what would a modern amplifier be without a remote?

The Premiera A1, similar to professional equipment, does not feature a standby mode; it operates solely in working mode. The device is powered on and off entirely using the power button located on the front panel, reminiscent of traditional amplifiers. Additionally, the mains power is not routed through supplementary circuits, which greatly enhances the sound quality.

Premiera A1 stands out as a traditional class AB integrated amplifier, enhanced with contemporary features and digital technology, including software updates and versatile usage options. It delivers exceptional sound quality, all at a price point that is hard to match by its nearest competitors.

This amplifier is a strong contender for any home audio system, particularly when considering its cost-effectiveness, functionality, and specifications. However, to fully appreciate the Premiera A1, it is essential to have a clear understanding of the sound profile you desire. Although it occupies a budget-friendly segment, there is a noticeable distinction in sound quality within this range.

On one end, you have the sterile and cold sound of class D amplifiers, while on the other, the Premiera A1 offers a warmer, more analog sound. While this classification may seem overly simplistic, it helps clarify choices in a market filled with extremes. The Premiera A1 pairs best with speakers that are easy to drive. If you prefer to avoid using an equalizer, opting for neutral-light speakers will create a harmonious match, ensuring a satisfying audio experience.
