Atoll SDA300 Signature: Roon Ready integrated amplifier

Atoll SDA300
Atoll SDA300

The Atoll SDA300 Signature model uses a Burr-Brown PCM1792 DAC. The DAC accepts resolutions up to 24/192 and DSD 128, and these signals can be further sent to a coaxial or optical PCM output or further to an amplifier.

The Atoll SDA300 Signature is also a complete integrated amplifier with two analogue inputs. The signal path is covered with MKP Mundorf shielded capacitors, and the power supply is implemented using two toroidal transformers (digital devices have a separate power supply) with a total capacity of more than 65,800 μF. Two pairs of MOSFETs per channel provide 2 x 150 W into 8 ohms. Thanks to its significant output current, the Atoll SDA300 Signature easily handles speakers even with complex impedance characteristics.

The all-metal body of the Atoll SDA300 Signature is equipped with a thick front aluminum panel, on which, among other controls, there are buttons for an analog volume control that uses switched resistors. On the front of the device is an LCD screen with plenty of well-organized graphics data that would be the envy of most streamers. The slider and back button on the left are used to navigate throughout the device and all functions. On the right is the volume control in the form of a step attenuator, very pleasant to the touch when using. A convenient USB port on the front panel allows you to connect external drives and drives without going behind the device, and there is also a headphone jack.

The façade of the Atoll SDA300 Signature has a built-in USB port for external drives and a 3.5 mm headphone jack. On the rear panel there is a full set of S/PDIF inputs, another USB for flash drives and HDD, a LAN port and two digital outputs (optical and coaxial). Analog switching is represented by a pair of linear RCA inputs and one RCA output. Thanks to this set of connectors, the streamer can be used as a full-fledged preamplifier. The device is equipped with a trigger output that allows you to activate a connected amplifier or DAC with a corresponding trigger input.

The signal transmission circuits of the Atoll SDA300 Signature use selected Mundorf MKP capacitors in reinforced housings. The device is distinguished by very high quality workmanship, typical of premium audio equipment. To connect acoustics, custom screw terminals are provided here, and all connectors have gold-plated contact surfaces. Atoll SDA300 Signature supports DLNA, UPnP protocols and can connect to a local network wired (via RJ45 LAN connector) or via Wi-Fi connection. This opens access to playback of audio files stored on servers and computers on the local network, including PCM up to 24 bit/192 kHz and DSD64/DSD128. Atoll SDA300 Signature supports the gapless function (playing without pauses) and allows you to create playlists.

Playback control is available using the real time streaming protocol RTSP (real time streaming protocol). The kit includes a remote control, but it is much more convenient to “command” the Atoll SDA300 Signature using a proprietary application for devices based on Android or iOS. This application also provides direct access to online music services such as Qobuz, Tidal and Deezer. Airable web service is supported, guaranteeing access to more than 100,000 radio stations. The model also has a built-in Bluetooth receiver for wireless audio playback, which is broadcast from Bluetooth sources.
