Others try to confuse you. <\/span><em><span dir=\"auto\" style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Eclipsium<\/span><\/em><span dir=\"auto\" style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"> does both \u2013 and at a pace that makes a one-legged turtle seem like a sprinter.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"auto\" style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">This is a so-called \u201cwalking simulator,\u201d but that\u2019s perhaps a bit too kind a description. Every step in <\/span><em><span dir=\"auto\" style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Eclipsium<\/span><\/em><span dir=\"auto\" style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"> feels heavy, almost meditative\u2014and in this twisted, sick universe, every step counts. Many players, including myself, encountered a black screen that seemingly refused to go away. If you press a key, the game crashes. If you don\u2019t, you have to wait. A long time.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"auto\" style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Some say the solution is to install on an SSD. That worked for me \u2013 but only because I happened to wait five minutes the next time. <\/span><em><span dir=\"auto\" style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Eclipsium<\/span><\/em><span dir=\"auto\" style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"> loads, just at its own pace. And this is a pace you should get used to, because it defines everything that follows.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong><span dir=\"auto\" style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">A decaying body \u2013 and a disintegrating mind<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span dir=\"auto\" style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">The story begins in a hospital. The protagonist lies on the operating table, but it\u2019s not the anesthesia that creates the nightmare \u2013 it\u2019s the memories. Distorted glimpses of a life marked by violence, shame and madness are thrown before you like fragmented images.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"auto\" style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">The hero, who refuses to run no matter what, must literally sacrifice himself to move forward. And that\u2019s rarely a good sign.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong><span dir=\"auto\" style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">A game without enemies \u2013 but full of fear<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span dir=\"auto\" style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Despite the <\/span><em><span dir=\"auto\" style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">psychological horror<\/span><\/em><span dir=\"auto\" style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"> label , there are hardly any monsters here. Death comes from falls, missteps, or the massive worms that occasionally appear. Otherwise, it\u2019s you and your head that are the enemy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"auto\" style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">You solve simple puzzles \u2013 finding keys, moving paintings, opening portals to new worlds \u2013 and it all takes place within small, claustrophobic spaces. Most of it is about observing, experiencing, and gradually losing your grip on reality.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong><span dir=\"auto\" style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">A grotesque beauty<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><em><span dir=\"auto\" style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Visually, Eclipsium<\/span><\/em><span dir=\"auto\" style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"> is a love letter to the PlayStation 1 era. An enormous, watchful figure who follows you \u2013 literally \u2013 with her gaze.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong><span dir=\"auto\" style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">A sick but fascinating experiment<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><em><span dir=\"auto\" style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Eclipsium<\/span><\/em><span dir=\"auto\" style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"> tries to be a psychological horror game, but ends up being something more peculiar \u2013 an experience that\u2019s more disturbing than scary. The biggest horror element isn\u2019t the gore, but the silence, the monotony, and the knowledge that you have to <\/span><em><span dir=\"auto\" style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">backtrack<\/span><\/em><span dir=\"auto\" style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"> after every puzzle. At a snail\u2019s pace.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"auto\" style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Still, it never gets boring. The visual madness and conceptual fashion in which the game challenges you keeps you curious until the very last scene.
