UXKQ: An excellent choice for a home entertainment TV

Traditional differences between various television technologies are gradually beginning to disappear. In 2023, advanced OLED TVs use new technologies to deliver brightness levels alongside their traditional black level quality. The LCD world has seen the introduction of mini-LED TVs with more advanced local dimming, delivering better black level performance coupled with their traditional brightness advantage.

In 2023, Hisense releases its flagship model 65UXKQ with 4K resolution, which proves that there are actually still quite a few differences in TV technology. The UXKQ series features multiple dimming zones and excellent peak brightness. In the review of Hisense 65UXKQ – Mini-LED 4K HDR, we will try to answer the question of whether the UXKQ series is worth its price.

Hisense UXKQ review

Design

The Hisense 65UXKQ (65UX) TV has a premium design, although the body is a bit thick for a high-end TV. However, most TVs are much thicker in the center section, while this TV is the same thickness at 47mm. It has a unique appearance with side-mounted speakers.

The TV comes with a pair of adjustable feet that support it well. The metal legs are very thin. They don’t take up much space and have minimal back and forth movement. Adjustable feet allow most soundbars to fit in front without obstructing the screen.

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-175441" src="https://www.stereoindex.com/tech/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/UXKQ.jpg" alt="" stand. The back of the TV is made of plastic with two different textures: vertical lines on the center panel and horizontal lines on the side panels.

The screen is framed by a thin frame, the width of which on three sides is no more than 5.3 mm. The width at the bottom is 15.5 mm. The TV has good build quality. It is mainly made of hard plastic, with metal legs and frame.

VIDAA U7

The Hisense 65UXKQ 65″ TV as a Smart TV has its own VIDAA U7 operating system. It is relatively easy to use, although it does not have as large a selection of applications as, for example, the Android-based Google TV OS. On the other hand, this TV has almost all the popular streaming apps.

The TV comes with a remote control. Unlike most modern remotes, it has a numeric keypad. There are also shortcut buttons to popular streaming services. The remote control, like the TV, has a built-in microphone for voice control.

These microphones provide access to the Vidaa Voice assistant. You can ask the TV to search for content, open apps, ask for the time or weather, or ask to switch inputs. In addition to the tuner, the Hisense UXKQ TV is equipped with a VIDAA media player, AI PQ, Multi-Language OSD and other useful functions.

<img loading="lazy" most other models, the sound on the 65UXKQ TV cannot be called mediocre. What’s really mediocre about it is its distortion performance, which is only audible at maximum volume. At medium volume they are almost inaudible. The speaker system has 4.1.2 sound.

It consists of two front speakers of 15 W, two side speakers of 8 W, two height speakers of 8 W, and a subwoofer with a power of 20 W. The total power of this system is 82 W. After this, it is difficult to disagree that such multi-channel sound is not available on every TV.

Of course, such a system will not be able to produce ideal sound at maximum volume, since it is placed in the TV case, and not in a separate soundbar. However, the TV’s speakers are very well balanced, so dialogue sounds very clear at moderate volumes. The TV supports the eARC channel , as well as formats such as Dolby Atmos , DTS Virtual X, AC-4. In addition, the device is equipped with an equalizer.

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-175442" should be noted that the Hisense UXKQ series consists of two models with diagonals of 65 and 85 inches. Their image characteristics are noticeably different. These TVs have different peak brightness values, as well as different numbers of dimming zones. For example, the Hisense 65UXKQ model has a peak brightness of 1500 nits.

In the Hisense 85UXKQ model this value reaches 2500 nits. All this affects other characteristics. This review covers the 65-inch model, which has 1,456 local dimming zones. The TV’s HDR peak brightness is fantastic. It is bright enough to overcome any number of light sources.

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-175443" src="https://www.stereoindex.com/tech/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/Pasted-24.jpg" alt="" width="800" height="800" srcset="https://www.stereoindex.com/tech/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/Pasted-24.jpg 800w, https://www.stereoindex.com/tech/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/Pasted-24-300x300.jpg 300w, sizes="auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" />

Highlights look very bright and stand out well on the screen. The HDR TV’s brightness in game mode is almost the same. There is no noticeable difference in peak brightness compared to Cinema mode. The operating brightness of the Hisens 65UXKQ TV is 650 nits.

Therefore, glare is not a problem even in the brightest rooms. The TV’s Automatic Brightness Limiter (ABL) significantly darkens the TV when bright glare takes up a significant portion of the screen.

UXKQ Looks great on the wall

Contrast and color scheme

The TV’s contrast is just perfect. Black levels with local dimming are very low. In other words, the TV has extremely deep blacks, so it looks amazing in a dark room. The 65UXKQ TV has amazing flowering performance.

Extremely small blackout zones minimize blur around bright objects or subtitles in dark scenes. Blooming with bright objects may appear on a black or almost black background, but it is difficult to notice. Overall, the model copes very well with fast moving objects.

However, small bright objects become so dim when moving quickly that they almost disappear. This is a bit disappointing. The color gamut almost completely covers the widely used DCI-P3 color space with excellent tonal representation.

However, some colors deviate a little from what they should be. This especially affects purple and, to a lesser extent, red colors. The TV also does an excellent job of covering the wider Rec. 2020.

Viewing Angles

The Hisense UXKQ 65 TV has decent viewing angles. The image remains stable at moderate angles. If you deviate too far from the center, the colors will become cloudy and the screen will appear washed out. However, these angles are sufficient for a moderately wide seating arrangement. In other words, you can move around the room without degrading the image.

The processing of reflections on the TV is also excellent. Its glossy surface reduces glare so much that this TV can handle even very bright rooms with ease. Also, Hisens UXKQ (UX) TVs have very good smoothing of low-quality content.

This helps avoid macro blocking in dark scenes and preserves fine details well. The same can be said about scaling. The resulting image appears sharp overall, with some, but not excessive, blur. Small details are well preserved and the text is easy to read.

Functions

The Hisense 65UXKQ Mini-LED TV has a good response time of 11.7ms. Although this value is higher than most other competing products, it is enough for all but the most competitive gamers. However, this is a bit disappointing for a premium product like this.

Hisense 8565UXKQ has an additional backlight strobe feature, commonly known as black frame insertion. This feature is designed to reduce persistent blur and improve the appearance of motion. The feature works well at both 60Hz and 120Hz, resulting in a clear image at the cost of some image duplication.

The TV has an optional motion interpolation feature to interpolate content at up to 120 frames per second. It also automatically eliminates image shake from any source for smooth movie viewing.

Game Mode

Hisense UXKQ 65 TV supports all variable refresh rate technologies. Its VRR range is limited to 120Hz. When the TV is connected to a PC using an AMD graphics card, it disables HDR when the FreeSync switch is enabled in the TV’s game settings menu. For VRR and HDR to work simultaneously, you need to disable FreeSync on your TV.

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-12609" src="https://www.stereoindex.com/tech/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/182_techweek.jpg" sizes="auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px" has HDMI 2.1 bandwidth on HDMI 3 and 4, with both supporting resolutions up to 4K at 120Hz. Unfortunately, HDMI 3 is a port that supports eARC. Therefore, gamers lose one HDMI 2.1 port when connecting the soundbar to their TV. The other two ports are HDMI 2.0.

The remaining physical interfaces include two USB 2.0 ports, as well as USB 3.0, a composite input, a 3.5 mm headphone output, an audio input, a CI+ slot and an RJ45 Ethernet port for a linear Internet connection. The wireless system is represented by such connections as Bluetooth BT5.0 and Wi-Fi.

Conclusion

This is an extremely bright TV in both HDR and SDR, with fantastic reflection handling, making it a great choice for any bright room. Its contrast and uniformity of black color are also extraordinary. That’s why HDR games and movies look amazing even in dark rooms.

The UX TV has very good image processing and supports Dolby Atmos enhanced audio format, as well as Dolby Vision and HDR10+. All this makes it an excellent choice for a home entertainment TV. It’s great as a gaming TV thanks to its stunning picture quality, incredibly low input lag and good response time.

Hisense UXKQ specifications:

Brand

<td
