{"id":169621,"date":"2023-09-23T13:47:22","date_gmt":"2023-09-23T12:47:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.techweekmag.com\/?p=169621"},"modified":"2023-10-18T05:56:03","modified_gmt":"2023-10-18T04:56:03","slug":"conrad-johnson-art-phono-exclusive-phono-stage-for-the-art88-amplifier","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.stereoindex.com\/tech\/hi-fi\/conrad-johnson-art-phono-exclusive-phono-stage-for-the-art88-amplifier\/","title":{"rendered":"Conrad-Johnson ART Phono: Exclusive phono stage for the ART88 amplifier"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The American company\u00a0Conrad-Johnson\u00a0never ceases to delight with new products.\u00a0Just recently\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.stereoindex.com\/tech\/news\/hi-fi\/conrad-johnson-launches-tea1-series-3-phono-stage\/\">we talked<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0about the third generation of the TEA1 tube phono preamplifier, and here again is a new product, and again \u2013 a phono preamplifier!<\/p>\n<p>The new\u00a0Conrad-Johnson ART Phono\u00a0is designed for use with the ART88 preamplifier.\u00a0Like the ART88, the Conrad-Johnson ART Phono will be limited to 250 pieces.\u00a0The new product is organically combined with the ART88 pre-amplifier both in design and circuitry.\u00a0The phono stage is designed in a dual mono concept, in which the two channels only share a common power transformer and chassis.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stereoindex.com\/tech\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/195_techweek.webp\" alt=\"Image\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Each ART Phono channel consists of two triode amplifier stages that use parallel sections of 12AX7A dual triodes coupled to the output via a 12AU7\/6189 dual triode buffer stage to provide low output impedance.\u00a0Each channel is supplied with two independent discrete DC power supplies: one for the input gain stage, the other for the second gain stage and buffer stage.<\/p>\n<p>The ART Phono is equipped with two inputs: one provides 53 dB gain and has variable capacitive and resistive loads, and the other is available with either a fixed load of 47.5 kOhm and 53 dB gain, or optionally available with a step-up transformer for 63 dB gain into 46 Ohm load .<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stereoindex.com\/tech\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/196_techweek.webp\" alt=\"Image\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The phono circuit uses Conrad-Johnson&#8217;s proprietary CJD Teflon capacitors and Vishay metal foil resistors.\u00a0RCA connectors are made from oxygen-free copper and then silver-plated and rhodium-plated.\u00a0The signal circuits are assembled on a separate board, and the phono preamplifier housing is made of thick aluminum to minimize microphone effect.<\/p>\n<p>The new\u00a0Conrad\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0Johnson\u00a0ART\u00a0Phono\u00a0will go on sale at the end of September.\u00a0The recommended retail price of the new product in the USA will be\u00a028 thousand dollars\u00a0.\u00a0The version with step-up transformers will cost 2 thousand dollars more.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The American company\u00a0Conrad-Johnson\u00a0never ceases to delight with new products.\u00a0Just recently\u00a0we talked\u00a0\u00a0about the third generation of the TEA1 tube phono preamplifier, and here again is a new product, and again \u2013 a phono preamplifier!
