{"id":166380,"date":"2023-08-01T16:43:54","date_gmt":"2023-08-01T15:43:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.techweekmag.com\/?p=166380"},"modified":"2023-10-18T05:57:05","modified_gmt":"2023-10-18T04:57:05","slug":"playstation-5-finally-able-to-stream-dolby-atmos","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.stereoindex.com\/tech\/gaming\/playstation-5-finally-able-to-stream-dolby-atmos\/","title":{"rendered":"PlayStation 5 finally able to stream Dolby Atmos"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Since the start of sales in 2020,\u00a0Sony\u00a0&#8216;s\u00a0PlayStation\u00a05 has not been able to stream\u00a0Dolby\u00a0Atmos\u00a0audio in games over HDMI\u00a0.\u00a0At the same time, interestingly, there was no such problem when playing 4K UHD Blu-ray discs.\u00a0As part of a new system firmware update currently being rolled out to PS5 beta testers, you can now enable Dolby Atmos streaming in games as well.\u00a0Previously, you could only choose Linear PCM, Dolby Digital, or DTS for games.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stereoindex.com\/tech\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/3_techweek.webp\" alt=\"Image\" \/><\/p>\n<p>To do this, Sony is using the\u00a0<i>Tempest\u00a0<\/i><i>3D\u00a0<\/i><i>AudioTech functionality already built into the PS5, which until now has allowed PS5 3D Audio through Sony\u00a0<\/i><i>&#8216;s<\/i>\u00a0first Pulse 3D wireless headset and any headphones you plug directly into the PS5 DualSense controller via 3.5mm headphone jack.\u00a0The console will now be able to identify the appropriate compatible devices, such as a Dolby Atmos soundbar or home theater surround sound system, and Tempest 3D AudioTech will process the soundtrack for that device and start outputting Dolby Atmos sound with overhead channels.<i><\/i><i><\/i><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stereoindex.com\/tech\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/4_techweek.webp\" alt=\"Image\" \/><\/p>\n<p>For this to work, your TV, soundbar, AV receiver, or processor must support the\u00a0HDMI eARC\u00a0specification .\u00a0The best option would be to use two HDMI 2.1 ports on the TV &#8211; one for connecting a PS5 console to realize the full potential of 4K \/ 120 Hz video with VRR and ALLM active, and one HDMI 2.1 eARC port for connecting a soundbar or AV receiver.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stereoindex.com\/tech\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/5_techweek.webp\" alt=\"Image\" \/><\/p>\n<p>To activate Dolby Atmos, go to\u00a0<i>Settings -&gt;
