{"id":165651,"date":"2023-07-19T09:53:00","date_gmt":"2023-07-19T08:53:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.techweekmag.com\/?p=165651"},"modified":"2023-07-19T09:53:00","modified_gmt":"2023-07-19T08:53:00","slug":"schiit-urd-cd-transport-with-usb-c","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.stereoindex.com\/tech\/hi-fi\/schiit-urd-cd-transport-with-usb-c\/","title":{"rendered":"Schiit Urd: CD transport with USB-C"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span>The American company Schiit\u00a0<\/span><span>has released<\/span><span>\u00a0another &#8220;not quite normal&#8221; component, the Urd CD transport.\u00a0<\/span><span>The Urd is arranged in a well-known proprietary form factor and with a similar remote control, like the Freya<\/span><span>\u00a0preamplifier\u00a0.\u00a0Color can be black or silver.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Urd uses the mechanism from StreamUnlimited with a metal CD tray.\u00a0There are two linear power supplies on board, one of which provides the drive only.\u00a0And for Urd to work, of course, you need to connect to a DAC.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stereoindex.com\/tech\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/94_techweek.jpg\" width=\"1920\" height=\"681\" \/><figcaption><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span>Quite expectedly, there are S\/DPIF digital outputs on the rear panel in coaxial or AES\/EBU versions.\u00a0We do not quite expect a USB-C output in this situation, to which any USB DAC can be connected, for which Unison USB proprietary technology is used.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The developers themselves describe this as follows: \u201cUrd&#8217;s unique USB output for reliable performance and wide compatibility has been the focus of several man-years of development at Schiit.\u00a0Urd works with all UAC2 compatible sources and DACs that have been tested by Schiit;\u00a0UAC2 is a globally accepted USB audio standard supported by all modern operating systems.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stereoindex.com\/tech\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/95_techweek.jpg\" width=\"1920\" height=\"990\" \/><figcaption><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<div id=\"$SO_CL_2\" class=\"lfb__item lfb__item_large\"><\/div>\n<p><span>Another feature is a pair of USB-C inputs.\u00a0You can connect, for example, a network streamer to them and switch between it and a CD.\u00a0Urd can also be used as a USB-C \/ SDIF converter, or, say, a USB-C to USB-C \u201csignal cleaner\u201d.\u00a0For all this, the novelty is equipped with four 32-bit microprocessors.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In the US, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.schiit.com\/products\/urd\">Schiit Urd<\/a> CD transport in black was $1,300, with a silver finish for another $50.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The American company Schiit\u00a0has released\u00a0another &#8220;not quite normal&#8221; component, the Urd CD transport.\u00a0The Urd is arranged in a well-known proprietary form factor and with a similar remote control, like the Freya\u00a0preamplifier\u00a0.\u00a0Color can be black or silver.
