The Mission\u00a0brand introduced the\u00a0778\u00a0X\u00a0integrated amplifier, the first integrated amplifier after a forty-year hiatus\u00a0.\u00a0With the predecessor from the 80s of the last century with the index 778, the novelty has in common the compact \u201chalf-width\u201d design.<\/p>\n

Model 778 was introduced by the then young British company Mission in 1983.\u00a0After that, the manufacturer concentrated on the development and production of acoustic systems, and allocated audio electronics to the Cyrus brand.\u00a0And now, after a forty-year break, Mission decided to revive the 778 model at a new level of audio technology development, adding the letter X to the index.<\/p>\n

First of all, the modern version was equipped with a DAC unit (well, where would we be without it today).\u00a0To connect digital sources, a USB-B port is provided, as well as coaxial and a pair of optical inputs.\u00a0There are even digital outputs here – coaxial and optical, as well as a Bluetooth adapter with support for aptX and AAC codecs for wirelessly receiving content from portable gadgets.\u00a0For analog sources, there are two stereo inputs on RCA connectors, as well as an input for the built-in phono stage.\u00a0There is also an output from the pre-amplifier for using external amplifiers or active acoustics.<\/p>\n

The Mission 778X’s built-in DAC is based on ESS Technology’s ES9018K2M Sabre32 Reference chip and can process PCM digital streams up to 32-bit\/384 kHz, as well as DSD up to 11.2 MHz (DSD256).<\/p>\n

The output stages of the Mission 778X amplifier are discrete and operate in class AB, delivering 45 watts into an 8 ohm load, or 65 watts into a 4 ohm load.\u00a0The power supply uses a 200VA toroidal power transformer, and the total capacity of the filter capacitor bank is 30,000uF.<\/p>\n

Mission offers not only the\u00a0\u00a3\u00a0549\u00a0778\u00a0X\u00a0amplifier itself\u00a0, but also several sets of Mission speakers at attractive prices\u00a0.\u00a0So, together with\u00a0Mission\u00a0LX-2\u00a0MkII\u00a0bookshelf speakers, the novelty will cost only\u00a0649 pounds\u00a0(if you buy an amplifier and acoustics separately, you will have to pay 130 pounds more).\u00a0The second higher end speaker variant, the\u00a0Mission\u00a0QX-2\u00a0MkII\u00a0, will cost\u00a0\u00a3799\u00a0(a difference of \u00a3150).<\/p>\n

The Mission 778\u00a0X\u00a0integrated amplifier\u00a0is available in black or silver and is expected to be available in December 2022.<\/p>\n
