{"id":151222,"date":"2022-11-24T13:53:03","date_gmt":"2022-11-24T13:53:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.techweekmag.com\/?p=151222"},"modified":"2022-11-24T13:53:03","modified_gmt":"2022-11-24T13:53:03","slug":"aavik-880-the-new-flagship-amplifier-series-from-denmark","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.stereoindex.com\/tech\/hi-fi\/aavik-880-the-new-flagship-amplifier-series-from-denmark\/","title":{"rendered":"Aavik 880: The new flagship amplifier series from Denmark"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Danish company\u00a0Audio\u00a0Group\u00a0Denmark\u00a0has introduced a new series of flagship amplifiers with the\u00a0880\u00a0index under its\u00a0Aavik\u00a0brand .\u00a0The series includes the\u00a0Aavik\u00a0I-880\u00a0integrated amplifier , the\u00a0C-880 preamplifier and the\u00a0P-880\u00a0power amplifier\u00a0.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stereoindex.com\/tech\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/197_techweek.jpg\" alt=\"Image\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The developers emphasize that the main goal of developing the 880 series was to create a powerful amplifier operating in pure class A, with the lowest possible output impedance and a record signal-to-noise ratio.\u00a0Up to this point, Aavik models used amplification in class D.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stereoindex.com\/tech\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/198_techweek.jpg\" alt=\"Image\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In mid-2021,\u00a0Flemming\u00a0Erik Rasmussen, founder and former owner of\u00a0Gryphon\u00a0Audio\u00a0, has taken over the development of Aavik brand components at Audio Group Denmark.\u00a0In collaboration with\u00a0Michael B\u00f8rresen\u00a0, extraordinary models of the flagship 880 series were born. Through intensive research, several characteristic elements in the traditional Class A amplifier design were identified, which, according to the developers, needed to be improved.<\/p>\n<div id=\"g1-fluid-wrapper-counter-1\" class=\"g1-fluid-wrapper \" style=\"width:662px;\" data-g1-fluid-width=\"662\" data-g1-fluid-height=\"372\">\n<div class=\"g1-fluid-wrapper-inner\" style=\"padding-bottom:56.19335347432%;\">\n\t       <iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Michael B\u00f8rresen and Flemming Erik Rasmussen on the: 880-series | Tech-talk\" width=\"662\" height=\"372\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/rPzMm235z2Y?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n\t       <\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The classic class A amplifier power supply is equipped with a powerful power transformer and a capacious capacitor bank.\u00a0The developers believe that a large and powerful transformer has two drawbacks.\u00a0First, many windings create excessive induction, which in turn leads to time delays.\u00a0Secondly, these multiple windings create parasitic capacitances that allow RFI from the mains to enter the amplifier&#8217;s signal circuits.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stereoindex.com\/tech\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/199_techweek.jpg\" alt=\"Image\" \/><\/p>\n<p>They have developed an innovative circuit that keeps the output stages in class A at all times, no matter how much current the power amplifier requires, thus significantly reducing power consumption.\u00a0This made it possible to reduce the capacity of the capacitor banks in the power supply filters and place them locally &#8211; each of the eight pairs of output transistors has its own capacitor bank located nearby.\u00a0This made it possible to minimize the length of the power lines and, thereby, reduce noise.\u00a0In addition, this innovative design of the 880 series amplifiers reduces heat during operation, solving one of the main problems of class A amplifiers.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stereoindex.com\/tech\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/200_techweek.jpg\" alt=\"Image\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The 880 Series amplifiers feature an innovative LDR (Light Dependent Resistor) microprocessor-controlled volume control that features record-breaking low noise levels due to the absence of FET switches and relays.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stereoindex.com\/tech\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/201_techweek.jpg\" alt=\"Image\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Aavik&#8217;s 880 series amplifiers also have an analog crossover, which allows precise configuration of triphonics with an active subwoofer.\u00a0In addition, this crossover can be used to equalize the system&#8217;s analog sound to match the acoustics of your listening room.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stereoindex.com\/tech\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/202_techweek.jpg\" alt=\"Image\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Flemming Eric Rasmussen was responsible for the appearance of the Aavik 880 amplifiers.\u00a0His approach has always been that design should serve a primary purpose.\u00a0The Aavik I-880 amplifier cabinet has been designed with the highest sonic performance in mind.\u00a0Copper was chosen as the main material for the body elements.\u00a0The chassis is a sandwich of copper plate, heavy laminate padding and a layer of titanium on the bottom, with copper heatsinks mounted on the sides.\u00a0The volume knob is covered with a rubber layer, and the main functions of the amplifier control are realized through a large touch-sensitive LCD display.\u00a0The Aavik 880 series amplifiers rest on Ansuz Darkz Z2 anti-vibration mounts that come with the package.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stereoindex.com\/tech\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/203_techweek.jpg\" alt=\"Image\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The integrated amplifier\u00a0Aavik\u00a0I-880\u00a0is already available for order.\u00a0The C-880\u00a0pre-amplifier and\u00a0P-880\u00a0power amplifier\u00a0should be available next January.\u00a0The suggested retail price for any Aavik 880 series model is\u00a067,000 euros.<\/p>\n<p><i>Source:\u00a0<\/i><a href=\"https:\/\/audiogroupdenmark.com\/the-new-aavik-flagship-the-880-series-of-amplifiers\/\"><i>Audio Group Denmark<\/i><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Danish company\u00a0Audio\u00a0Group\u00a0Denmark\u00a0has introduced a new series of flagship amplifiers with the\u00a0880\u00a0index under its\u00a0Aavik\u00a0brand .\u00a0The series includes the\u00a0Aavik\u00a0I-880\u00a0integrated amplifier , the\u00a0C-880 preamplifier and the\u00a0P-880\u00a0power amplifier\u00a0.
