The\u00a0MoFi Electronics\u00a0division of\u00a0Mobile\u00a0Fidelity\u00a0, known for its audiophile editions of music on vinyl and SACD, continues to expand its line of audio equipment under its brand.\u00a0Following the turntables, cartridges and phono stages, the turn came to the acoustic systems.<\/p>\n

The new MoFi Electronics SourcePoint 10\u00a0shelf monitors\u00a0, designed by\u00a0Andrew Jones<\/i>\u00a0, made their world premiere at Capital Audiofest in mid-November in the United States.<\/p>\n

The MoFi SourcePoint 10 speakers are the result of a year and a half of research led by acoustic engineer Andrew Jones.\u00a0\u201cNo matter how much an audio product costs, I strive to deliver sound quality that far exceeds the asking price,\u201d Jones said.<\/p>\n

The MoFi SourcePoint 10 is a two-way speaker with a large 10″ coaxial driver designed by Andrew Jones specifically for this model.\u00a0The middle and lower end of the range is entrusted to the driver with a conical paper cone with a diameter of 10 inches.\u00a0Thanks to the large cone area, it was possible to expand the working area of \u200b\u200b\u200b\u200bacoustics up to 42 Hz.<\/p>\n

The use of a large driver led to the choice of a rather low crossover frequency – the tweeter in the MoFi SourcePoint 10 starts from 1.6 kHz up to 30 kHz.\u00a0The tweeter features a 1.25″ soft dome and a large diameter voice coil.\u00a0The dynamic heads of the SourcePoint 10 monitors feature a high-flux neodymium magnet system that MoFi Electronics calls Twin-Drive.<\/p>\n

A lot of attention during development was paid to the body and the shape of the two-inch-thick front panel.\u00a0The complex multi-faceted front panel of the speakers minimizes the diffraction of sound waves.\u00a0Constructed from one inch thick MDF panels, the cabinet has an internal volume of 50 liters.\u00a0The speakers have a sensitivity of 91 dB and a nominal impedance of 8 ohms with a minimum of 6.4 ohms.\u00a0Thus, MoFi SourcePoint 10 will not become a difficult load for the amplifier.\u00a0Two internal struts improve the acoustic performance of the cabinet, while the exterior is finished in natural wood veneer, with a choice of satin walnut or black ash.<\/p>\n

The MoFi\u00a0SourcePoint 10<\/a> speakers\u00a0will be available in the US this December for $\u00a03,699\u00a0a pair.<\/p>\n
