<\/p>\nThe \u201cStrategic Imaging Partnership\u201d kicked off earlier this year and the new 12S series is the first products of this collaboration, culminating in the Xiaomi 12S Ultra.\u00a0The entire smartphone series incorporates new imaging systems jointly developed by Xiaomi and Leica, thanks also to Leica Summicron branded optics and Leica imaging profiles.<\/p>\n
Xiaomi writes: \u201cIn this new era of mobile photography, Xiaomi and Leica have jointly created a new standard for smartphone photography.\u00a0Combining Leica’s experience in optical technology and image processing with Xiaomi’s rich experience in computer-generated photography for smartphones, the Xiaomi 12S series, co-developed with Leica, offers image quality unparalleled in a smartphone.<\/p>\n

This flagship model adopts Leica optical design, including the use of an 8P aspherical lens designed to eliminate flare, ghosting and chromatic aberration, as well as anti-reflective lens coating, lens edge coating, the latest COC (cyclic olefin copolymer \/ cyclic olefin copolymer) and infrared filter .\u00a0All together, according to Leica, promises a better image quality.<\/p>\n
All 12S series models support two Leica imaging profiles: Leica Authentic Look and Leica Vibrant Look.\u00a0Leica developed the first mode to add “a sense of three-dimensional depth” to photos, while the second mode was jointly developed by Leica and Xiaomi.<\/p>\n

Last week, we learned that the Xioami 12S Ultra will get a 1-inch\u00a0Sony IMX989\u00a0image sensor .\u00a0And it did, it’s a 50.3MP stabilized image sensor, and it uses Quad-Bayer technology with 1.6\u00b5m pixel sizes.\u00a0With 4-in-1 pixel binning, the pixel size can be effectively increased, thereby reducing noise, improving dynamic range, and providing better image quality in low light, albeit at the expense of resolution.<\/p>\n
The sensor includes Dual-PD and laser autofocus, and also supports macro focus.\u00a0The sensor is paired with an F1.9 8P aspherical lens with a focal length of 23mm.\u00a0This makes it the full-frame equivalent of F5.2, which is 0.8EV and 2\/3EV ahead of the iPhone 13 Pro and Google Pixel 6 Pro, which are equivalent to F6.8 and F6.5.\u00a0The 12S Ultra also has a 13mm F2.2 ultra-wide-angle camera with a 1\/2-inch (48MP) Sony IMX586 sensor.\u00a0This sensor also supports pixel binning.\u00a0The third camera is a 120mm F4.1 telephoto lens with the same IMX586 sensor.\u00a0The telephoto lens received optical image stabilization.\u00a0Front camera with a resolution of 32 megapixels.<\/p>\n
In terms of video, the 12S Ultra records 4K UHD video at up to 50 fps, including the new Dolby Vision format (10-bit Rec.2020 HLG H.265).\u00a0You can record FHD slow motion videos at up to 480 fps.\u00a0At a reduced resolution of 1280 x 720, you can record at up to 3840 fps with the caveat that the 95ms capture speed is increased to 12-second slow-motion video).<\/p>\n

Xiaomi 12S and 12S Pro use the Sony IMX707 image sensor for their main cameras.\u00a0The sensor size is 1\/1.28 inch and the pixel size after binning is 2.44 \u00b5m.\u00a0These smartphones also support 30 fps image capture.<\/p>\n
All three 12S series phones support shooting in 10-bit RAW format calibrated by Adobe Labs.\u00a0Color correction is built into the files, so if you’re using Adobe Lightroom on your phone, the program will automatically optimize.<\/p>\n
There are other noteworthy features, including support for Dolby Vision HDR on the 12S Ultra, a first for Xiaomi, two Xioami Surge chips for fast charging, improved battery algorithms, the use of the all-new Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 mobile platform. 10% and 30% more energy efficiency.\u00a0Xiaomi 12S Ultra also received a completely new heat dissipation system.<\/p>\n
The 12S Ultra and 12S Pro use the same 6.73-inch AMOLED display.\u00a0The screen has a maximum brightness of 1500 nits with a refresh rate of 1 to 120 Hz.\u00a0The standard 12S uses a 6.28-inch display that also supports P3 refresh, HDR10+ and 120Hz.<\/p>\n
The Xiaomi 12S starts at CNY 3,999 (roughly $600).\u00a0The 12S Pro and 12S Ultra start at 4,699 Yuan ($700) and 5,999 Yuan ($890), respectively.\u00a0At the moment, the start of sales has been announced only in China.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
