Thus, Philips changes the situation in the field of High-End TV, since the specification was supplemented with HDMI 2.1.\u00a0Another question that remains open is whether the Philips OLED856 will be able to compete with the stunning picture quality of the LG\u00a0C1,\u00a0or will have to\u00a0live with the\u00a0Ambilight technology.\u00a0Let’s take a look at the Philips 55OLED856 UHD OLED HDR TV review and try to figure it out.<\/p>\n

Philips OLED856 Preview<\/h2>\n

Philips high-quality TVs have one thing – the manufacturer uses only high-quality materials that give the TVs a stylish design.\u00a0Not much has changed in design since 2021.\u00a0An example is the Philips\u00a0OLED806\u00a0TV series\u00a0, which is a twin to the Philips OLED856 series in question.<\/p>\n

Philips OLED856 series has an extremely narrow bezel.\u00a0It, like the back of the TV, is made of a metal structure.\u00a0At the same time, the depth of the 55OLED856 TV is very small.\u00a0This makes the 2021 OLED Series 8 look great when mounted on a wall.\u00a0Interfaces facing down and to the right of the screen remain easy to access.<\/p>\n

The main and main difference between OLED856 and OLED806 is the central swivel stand, except for the availability of diagonal sizes in these lines.\u00a0For some reason, the Philips OLED856 looks really great, and the presence of a tilt-and-turn stand gives some plus when installed on a horizontal surface.<\/p>\n

As previously mentioned, the Philips 55 OLED 856 TV screen is a 10-bit OLED panel with perfect blacks and theoretically infinitely high contrast.\u00a0This performance cannot be achieved with any conventional LED backlit LCD TV, not even\u00a0Mini-LED\u00a0backlit TVs.\u00a0As a result, the picture quality in a dark room is really impressive.<\/p>\n

Although glare from external light sources is fairly well neutralized, the picture quality on the 55 OLED 856 TV decreases with increased stray light, which is partly due to lower brightness and partly due to automatic brightness limiting (ABL).\u00a0ABL function prevents burning of OLED screen.<\/p>\n

It darkens more areas where the content is too bright (for example, the channel logo), so that the OLEDs are not damaged by overheating.\u00a0Thus, it is one of the most effective protective mechanisms to partially solve the problem of OLED burns.<\/p>\n

This is complemented by the powerful 5th generation P5 AI processor in the new Philips 856 OLED TVs.\u00a0Its computing power is sufficient for image optimization and scaling.\u00a0The processor is also tuned to take measures against OLED burn-in, such as pixel shifting and logo dimming.\u00a0As support for dynamic HDR formats, the spec includes\u00a0Dolby Vision\u00a0and HDR10 + Adaptive, but no\u00a0Dolby Vision IQ\u00a0.<\/p>\n

The dynamic scenes in the OLED856 are truly impressive.\u00a0Not surprisingly, the panel can operate in the 40 to 120 Hz range.\u00a0The 55OLED856 Philips TV has an almost instant response – less than 1ms.\u00a0Thus, there is practically no blurring on the screen.\u00a0This is especially important for sports broadcasters and game consoles.<\/p>\n

However, short response times can lead to stuttering when content is displayed at a low refresh rate.\u00a0These image jerking can be minimized by enabling the BFI function, but this can lead to\u00a0soap opera effects\u00a0and artifacts in \u201cheavy\u201d content.\u00a0On the other hand, jitter is not an issue with Philips OLED856 and can be removed from all Full HD sources.<\/p>\n

Two chips: HDMI 2.1 and Ambilight 4x<\/h3>\n

The good news is that a lot has changed in new Philips models since 2021.\u00a0This applies to gaming functions.\u00a0With good motion processing, low input lag of about 10ms at 4K @ 60Hz, and two HDMI 2.1 interfaces, the 55 OLED856 has everything a gamer could wish for.<\/p>\n

By the way, these interfaces support 4K @ 120Hz with about 6ms input lag, adjustable refresh rate via FreeSync Premium and compatibility with G-Sync as well as ALLM.\u00a0Plus, Xbox users can enjoy Dolby Gaming with 4-way Ambilight.<\/p>\n

Decent sound<\/h3>\n

The OLED856 series has a 2.1 50W sound system (RMS).\u00a0Indeed, this is some achievement for flat screen TVs.\u00a0But upon closer examination, this is not surprising, since this is the same acoustics system that was used in its predecessor.\u00a0However, this is by no means a disadvantage.<\/p>\n

The treble and mids are well matched for clear sound quality.\u00a0In addition, OLED856 may experience slight distortion at fairly high volume levels.\u00a0Unfortunately, the bass is lacking, which is not surprising for a TV with this design.<\/p>\n

The overall sound quality is not bad, but since the Philips OLED856 is quite an expensive model, the user will probably not be satisfied with the built-in sound system.\u00a0But for the use of a separate Hi-Fi soundbar, everything is there – HDMI eARC interfaces support both DTS and Dolby Atmos.<\/p>\n

Lots of features in Android 10<\/h3>\n

In all fairness, the new version of the Andoird TV operating system is pretty much bringing visual innovation with it.\u00a0It now runs more smoothly.\u00a0Thanks to the Google Play Store, the selection of apps is huge and all common streaming services are supported.<\/p>\n

The remote control makes a good impression, but it is a little too big.\u00a0If navigation with the remote control is problematic, then you can easily use the built-in voice assistant Google Assistant.\u00a0Alexa is also available, but not in all markets and requires a separate device.\u00a0Apple\u00a0Airplay, however, is\u00a0not available.\u00a0Unfortunately, the OLED856 does not have a dual tuner, but the time shift and USB recording functions remain available.<\/p>\n

Conclusion<\/h3>\n

Overall, Philips OLED 856 performed very well. No wonder.\u00a0It has excellent image processing and\u00a0upscaling that is no less than its predecessor OLED805\u00a0.\u00a0Superior calibration provides an immersive image with more black details and beautiful natural colors.<\/p>\n

The Filmmaker mode is for clean picture lovers, and the new Home Theater mode is a good choice for those who watch in a lit room.\u00a0Philips’ Fast Motion Clarity makes every detail available in action scenes, making it a great addition for sports enthusiasts.<\/p>\n

The optional OLED anti-scald technology brings some peace of mind to those who question OLED panels.\u00a0In addition, the Philips 55OLED856 \/ 12 TV provides extensive support for HDR standards.\u00a0It’s a shame that Dolby Vision IQ is missing.\u00a0Overall, the models in this series have excellent OLED performance with high peak brightness and very rich colors.<\/p>\n
