{"id":122181,"date":"2021-02-14T06:23:37","date_gmt":"2021-02-14T06:23:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.techweekmag.com\/?p=122181"},"modified":"2021-03-05T14:30:24","modified_gmt":"2021-03-05T14:30:24","slug":"nzxt-officially-recalls-h1-in-usa-and-canada-due-to-fire-hazard","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.stereoindex.com\/tech\/technology\/nzxt-officially-recalls-h1-in-usa-and-canada-due-to-fire-hazard\/","title":{"rendered":"NZXT officially recalls H1 in USA and Canada due to fire hazard"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We already wrote\u00a0in November that NZXT acknowledged a problem with its unusual compact\u00a0H1\u00a0computer\u00a0case by\u00a0suspending sales.\u00a0They later called the enclosure unsafe\u00a0and proposed a temporary solution.\u00a0Now the company has officially recalled the case.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"NZXT H1 PC Case Catches Fire\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/dvR9BofyjV0?feature=oembed\" width=\"916\" height=\"515\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>This was reported by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).\u00a0The recall is made due to a design flaw: the PCIe riser board used in H1 can cause a short circuit, which can lead to a fire inside the case.\u00a0According to the statement, NZXT has received 11 reports of overheating or burning of riser circuit boards worldwide &#8211; six in the United States.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stereoindex.com\/tech\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/02.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The first confirmed case occurred back in February 2020.\u00a0The CPSC reported that it has sold approximately 32,000 of these chassis in the US and 1,024 in Canada since launch.\u00a0Consumers were advised to immediately stop using the recalled computer cases and contact NZXT for a free repair kit so that they can safely operate their systems.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stereoindex.com\/tech\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/01.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"408\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In November 2020, the company said the metal screws used to secure the PCIe riser were to blame for the problem, so it offered customers a replacement for special plastic ones.\u00a0Experiments have shown that plastic screws act less aggressively on the threads in the PCB board.\u00a0However, this only postpones the problem: over time, the thread in the PCB will disperse, which will lead to a short circuit and even a fire, as the experience of many video bloggers has shown.<\/p>\n<p>NZXT CEO Johnny Hou said the company will remove the H1 from the windows, ship redesigned PCIe risers for existing chassis, and move to more robust and rigorous design processes.\u00a0At the time of writing, both versions of the H1 are not available on the NZXT website.<\/p>\n<p>This is a bit of a shame, because the case was popular among enthusiasts who wanted to build a complete and at the same time compact PC.\u00a0Hopefully, the company will fix the problems and resume sales of the already revised model.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We already wrote\u00a0in November that NZXT acknowledged a problem with its unusual compact\u00a0H1\u00a0computer\u00a0case by\u00a0suspending sales.\u00a0They later called the enclosure unsafe\u00a0and proposed a temporary solution.\u00a0Now the company has officially recalled the case.
