Tannoy Mercury 7.1: Accurate and balanced sound guaranteed

Tannoy Mercury 7.1
Tannoy Mercury 7.1

To improve an already good product, you need to add detail. Based on Tannoy’s successful Mercury Vi series of speakers, the ‘7’ range has seen a host of modifications designed to deliver an even more engaging and articulate sound than its award-winning predecessor. With every sound detail, the Mercury VII series strengthens its position as a leader in its price category.

Tannoy’s Mercury series speaker systems have been offering Hi-Fi fans a high-quality and inexpensive solution for building stereo and home theater systems for two decades. And each time Tannoy offered a more and more advanced product. It also happened this time. In order to reach a new quality level, Tannoy engineers completely redesigned Mercury systems and tried to avoid a number of compromises typical for budget models.

Tannoy Mercury 7.1 have accurate and balanced sound and are perfect for use as near-field acoustics. They can be placed in small rooms, including on the desktop – both for high-quality listening to music and, for example, for monitoring recordings.

Tannoy Mercury 7.1 speaker systems have a pleasant appearance due to high-quality external finishing, as well as the original design of the speakers on the front panel. The latter circumstance allows the Mercury 7.1 to look very stylish with the protective nets removed, which is a rarity in this price category. The external finish of the speaker can be of three types – walnut, dark or light oak. The speaker is equipped with a woofer with a diameter of 127 mm, the diffuser of which is made of impregnated paper. Mounted on an elastic suspension and connected to a powerful magnetic system, the diffuser is capable of creating significant sound pressure in the listening room. To expand the range of reproduced bass, the speaker system is equipped with a bass reflex, the output of which is located on the rear panel.

The tweeter in the Tannoy Mercury 7.1 speakers is a recent development of the company, and many Tannoy entry-level speakers are equipped with such drivers. The tweeter is equipped with a 28 mm diameter polyamide dome and an effective neodymium magnet, and operates in a frequency range extended to 32 kHz. This makes the speaker sound airy and detailed, both when playing music of various genres and when playing movie soundtracks. The crossover filter installed in the speaker is made of high-quality components and is tuned to a fairly high frequency of 3.4 kHz, which ensures linear response in the voice range. The Tannoy Mercury 7.1 cabinet features deep internal damping to dampen wall vibrations and associated distortion and sound coloration. In general, this model has a very favorable quality-to-price ratio and will be an excellent choice for many beginning music lovers.
