Thorens has introduced its latest flagship turntable, the TD 124 DD Exclusive, which will debut at the Munich High End Show starting tomorrow. This new model expands the brand’s iconic TD 124 series, drawing inspiration from both the original TD 124 DD and the limited 140th anniversary edition. Created for discerning audiophiles, the TD 124 DD Exclusive combines cutting-edge engineering with Thorens’ renowned legacy to deliver exceptional sound quality and refined design. It features a 12-inch TP 124 tonearm and the specially developed Tondose 124 Exclusive cartridge by EMT, which Thorens claims sets a new benchmark in analog audio performance.
Since its debut in 1957, the Thorens TD 124 has been a turntable that has found its way into broadcast studios and audiophile setups worldwide. Reintroduced in 2020, the TD 124 DD modernized this icon with a high-precision direct drive motor and the TP 124 tonearm. The TD 124 DD Exclusive builds on this tradition, integrating exclusive components for reference-level performance. “With the TD 124 DD Exclusive, Thorens sets a new benchmark in the top class of turntable construction,” the company says, underscoring its dedication to unparalleled sound quality.
The centrepiece of this model is the 12-inch TP 124 tonearm, an evolution of the original TP 124, designed to minimise tracking errors through its additional length, reducing distortion and delivering crystal-clear audio quality. Pure silver internal wiring ensures maximum signal purity, preserving every nuance from cartridge to output. The tonearm is complemented by a pure copper platter support, which improves the acoustic coupling between platter and record and further reduces resonances for exceptional sonic accuracy.
The TD 124 DD Exclusive retains the high-precision direct-drive motor of the TD 124 DD, renowned for its powerful torque and smooth operation. This edition comes standard with the linear TPN 124 power supply, ensuring a clean and stable power source for maximum sonic performance. The turntable’s height-adjustable aluminium chassis resting on vibration-damping rubber elements minimises external interference, while gold-plated RCA outputs and balanced XLR outputs ensure seamless coupling to any phono amplifier.
