Soulution 787: A Precision Turntable with Linear Tracking Reinvented

The Soulution 787 turntable incorporates a linear tracking system, featuring a sliding platter and a swivel tonearm designed for minimal movement. This configuration minimizes tracking error to below 0.15 degrees. The eight-inch tonearm, compatible with high-compliance cartridges, is mounted on a sub-chassis that is isolated and controlled for resonance.

The platter’s lateral movement ensures that the swivel tonearm remains aligned with a linear tracking path. The design of the 787 effectively removes the friction and unbalanced forces typically found in linear tracking tonearms, which can cause lateral forces to misalign the arm from the outer to the inner grooves of the record. The 787 provides the benefits of low friction rotary tonearms while avoiding the cross-forces, tracking inaccuracies, and alignment issues common with conventional rotary tonearms.

The entire platter subframe, which includes the platter, a sub-platter featuring a high-precision sintered low-friction magnetic bearing, and a platter drive motor equipped with precious metal brushes, moves laterally beneath the tonearm on polished axles. This design minimizes tracking error from the outer to the inner groove of the vinyl record. Unlike a traditional tangential tonearm, the Soulution 787 allows the entire turntable to slide horizontally rather than just the tonearm. This tonearm merges the benefits of both linear and pivot designs, eliminating tracking forces and issues related to transverse forces or tracking errors. High-precision inductive proximity sensors continuously monitor the tonearm’s position and regulate the platter’s lateral movement, maintaining a tracking error consistently below 0.15 degrees.

The tonearm features high-quality alloy cables and allows for adjustments in VTA and azimuth. When the platter is parked, the tonearm extends outward, facilitating easy vinyl record changes. A switched mode power supply, utilizing efficient DC-DC converters and ultra-low noise, high-speed linear regulators, provides the necessary voltages for the operation of the 787 turntable.
