Reed, a Lithuanian audio manufacturer, has introduced the Reed SF, an optical turntable cartridge, accompanied by a specialized phono amplifier and an external power supply. These new audio products will be showcased at the High End audio trade fair in Munich next week. Details regarding pricing and delivery are still pending.
Reed SF: optical element
The Reed SF is an optical cartridge that sets itself apart from traditional magnetic cartridges by eliminating coils and magnets. While it features a stylus for groove scanning, the stylus movements are monitored by a laser-based optical system designed to minimize mechanical interference and tracking force. This cartridge includes a sapphire crystal cantilever and a Shibata stylus, with a tracking force that ranges from 1.5 to 2.0 grams. Its output is compatible with specialized optical phono stages.
Reed EQ Phono Equalizer: phono amplifier specifically for optical cartridges
The Reed EQ Phono Equalizer enhances the Reed SF and is specifically tailored for optical cartridges. It features RIAA equalization and includes a mono switch for playback versatility. This device provides both RCA and balanced XLR outputs, accommodating a range of system setups. The Reed EQ is powered by the Reed PS external power supply, which the manufacturer claims effectively reduces noise.
The Reed PS serves as the external power source for the Reed EQ Phono Equalizer. It is engineered to deliver a stable and clean power supply, essential for the optimal performance of delicate audio equipment. Utilizing an external power supply aims to minimize potential noise and interference, thereby enhancing the overall audio quality of the system.
