Audio-Technica has introduced a new range of turntable cartridges, known as the AT-VMx series, which includes the AT-VM700x, AT-VM600x, and AT-VM500x models. This series features options for both stereo and mono playback.
Audio-Technica AT-VMx
The AT-VMx series is the first major overhaul and improvement since 2016, according to the manufacturer, delivering the best sound quality in Audio-Technica’s VM cartridge history with significant improvements in usability for today’s vinyl enthusiast. This new generation lineup offers a wide range of cartridges designed for every listener, from vinyl novice to seasoned audiophile. With options at every price point, the AT-VMx series offers a clear upgrade path, allowing users to expand the lineup as their system and listening preferences evolve.
At the heart of the new design is the introduction of PCUHD (= Pure Copper Ultra High Drawability) as the coil conductor for all models. This high-purity material provides a powerful low-frequency response and a wider soundstage. Combined with a newly optimised coil structure that reduces the number of windings, every element in the VMx series delivers a rich, responsive and extremely musical sound reproduction.
All models are now also more user-friendly, thanks to threads in the cartridge housing for easy mounting on integrated tonearms. In addition, the flip-up stylus guard now features a V-shaped cut to indicate the position of the stylus tip and to serve as a guide when lowering the stylus onto the record.
Audio-Technica AT-VMx: Elements for stereo reproduction
- AT-VM510xCB: The entry-level model, equipped with a bonded conical stylus for stable tracking performance.
- AT-VM520xEB: The standard model with a bonded elliptical stylus. The distortion of the tracking has been reduced, which ensures more accurate information capture.
- AT-VM530xEN: A premium model with an elliptical stylus, equipped with a lightweight elliptical stylus to reduce the effective mass of the vibration system, combined with a revised suspension wire to enable enhanced musical expression.
- AT-VM740xML: The micro linear stylus provides excellent detail and wide imaging, while delivering a rich sound stage and powerful mid- to low-frequency performance.
- AT-VM745xML: In addition to excellent wide-range reproduction, the combination with a boron cantilever enables detailed and immersive spatial reproduction.
- AT-VM750xSH: Equipped with a Shibata stylus, it excels not only in the high frequencies, but also in the rich reproduction of mid to low frequencies. With its clear and powerful positioning in the soundstage, it knows how to perfectly convey the intensity of the performance.
- AT-VM760xSL: Equipped with a special line contact stylus that extracts all the information from the grooves of the record. The precision-polished stylus tip delivers premium high-frequency response and detailed spatial expression.
