Fyne Audio F704SP Unveiled: Neodymium Precision, Cryogenic Crossovers, and 96dB Sensitivity

The F704SP from Fyne Audio is a refined and improved version of the original F704 floorstanding speaker. According to the designers, the F704SP blends the dynamic power of the F704 with the acoustic refinement of the flagship F1 series. The F704SP is based on Fyne Audio’s signature 300mm IsoFlare point source driver. This coaxial driver combines a 300mm multi-fiber bass/midrange cone with Fyne’s signature 3-inch (75mm) titanium dome compression tweeter, time-dependently tuned to a large cone at the center of the driver.

The speaker is controlled by a complex magnet system with neodymium magnets for high frequencies, and a large ferrite in the main cone. The reason for the choice of different magnets is that the conductive properties of neodymium magnets in the HF system significantly reduce distortion by attenuating the inductive losses in the voice coil. This results in a very accurate frequency response and improved high frequency performance. The substantial ferrite motor with the large low frequency cone precisely controls the voice coil while providing an excellent excursion range of the driver.

The result is a very tight, fast and dynamic bass. Furthermore, to extend the low frequency response and achieve high sensitivity of the whole speaker (96dB/W), the F704SP features a second 300mm woofer. This woofer features a lightweight multi-fiber cone, ferrite motor system and the same FyneFlute surround as the companion IsoFlare. The F704SP also features a down-firing port combined with Fyne Audio’s BassTrax Tractrix diffusion system, providing a 360-degree low frequency wavefront. Additionally, according to the manufacturer, the F704SP benefits from a significantly improved crossover network. Redesigned using computer modeling and listening sessions, this crossover network includes higher quality components such as ClarityCap polypropylene capacitors and high current Vishay military grade thick film resistors in the high frequency signal path.

In addition, Fyne Audio has subjected the complete crossover assembly to its own cryogenic treatment at the DCT facility in their new Scottish factory. Neotech PC-OCC wiring used throughout is renowned for its exceptional clarity and transparent signal transmission.

The curved F704SP enclosure is constructed from pressed high-density European birch plywood and features extensive internal bracing; the rigid enclosure offers unmatched rigidity despite its large internal volume. Gold-plated WBT Nextgen terminals can be found on the rear.

A significant upgrade from the F704, the F704SP features Prance and BassTrax construction manufactured to the same exacting specifications as the F1-12S. A sandwich of heavy aluminum plates is combined with advanced Traxcone technology and Fyne’s large M12 threaded metal cone feet. The Prance acts as an ultra-rigid radial low frequency wave guide for the porting system. Additionally, the Prance design provides optimal floor connection, necessary for the speaker’s 71.5 kg weight, ensuring exceptional stability for the speaker. The F704SP’s specified frequency range is from 22 Hz to a crisp 26 kHz, and its extremely high sensitivity of 96 dB (1 watt) means no powerful amplifiers are required. Maximum power output is 600 watts.

In addition to the original F704’s Piano Black, Gloss White and Gloss Walnut finishes, the F704SP is also available in a genuine walnut hand-finished satin veneer. A pair of Fyne Audio F704SPs retail for around €24,000.
