Luxman D-06U: Audiophile Disc Playback with Hi-Res USB Streaming

Drawing inspiration from the flagship Luxman D-08U, the Luxman D-06U player is specifically engineered to handle 2-channel recordings from SACD/CD discs, incorporating all the cutting-edge digital audio technologies developed by the company’s engineers. This new model features a completely overhauled analog and digital circuitry and introduces the capability for streaming file playback through a USB interface when connected to Mac or Windows PCs. Assembled in Japan, the Luxman D-06U stands out as one of the premier models in its category, enabling users to achieve the highest sound quality from both disc recordings and files stored on their computers.

The Luxman D-06u shares the same functional capabilities as the D-06 player, but it features a notable distinction. It includes a USB input that can accept a digital stream from a computer (either PC or Mac). This allows for stream parameters of up to 32 bit / 384 kHz for PCM or 5.6 MHz for DSD. Consequently, the Luxman D-06u stands out as a contemporary device suitable for playing CD/SACD music collections while also enabling playback of audio files from a computer. This functionality is increasingly essential in modern audio systems, and the option to connect to a high-quality USB DAC player (as opposed to relying on a computer’s internal sound cards) is likely to attract many audiophiles.

The analog circuitry of the Luxman D-06U revitalizes familiar audio recordings, and its proprietary LxDTM disc drive is noted for its precision in data retrieval from discs, owing to its exceptionally stable and quiet design. The high-quality DAC, utilizing two PCM1792A chips in a dual mono setup, delivers an impressive dynamic range of up to 132 dB (similar to the D-08), and features a fully balanced buffer circuit composed of high-grade discrete components at its output. All audio circuits are powered by a dedicated power transformer.

Consequently, this exceptional SACD/CD player is characterized by a true ‘portrait’ representation of the crucial mid-frequency range, allowing both vocals and musical instruments to resonate with captivating realism. The Luxman D-06U player features the proprietary LxDTM transport, known for its remarkable operational stability and lack of mechanical vibrations. Its digital-to-analog converter utilizes two PCM1792A microchips (one for each channel), achieving an outstanding signal-to-noise ratio while minimizing distortion. The power supply, designed with a custom shielded transformer, includes separate circuits for both the analog and digital components, as well as additional electronics. Each functional unit is mounted on its own printed circuit board and housed in a shielded compartment, ensuring effective protection against crosstalk and interference. The audio circuit of the Luxman D-06U employs a balanced design with a symmetrical printed circuit board layout, adhering to the dual mono principle. The device offers both balanced and unbalanced outputs, along with optical and coaxial input and output options.
