CambridgeAudio has updated its wireless in-ear headphones Melomania and the latest version is called Melomania A100. The most noticeable difference from competitors is the use of class AB amplification, just like in the previous version. Together with support for LDAC, the reproduction of the Melomania A100 is according to Cambridge Audio of a real hi-fi level.
Cambridge Melomania A100
The Melomania A100 are the latest wireless in-ear headphones from British audio brand Cambridge Audio. These compact earbuds promise to deliver the company’s signature hi-fi sound on the go, combining premium amplification with advanced wireless technology and everyday comfort.
The Melomania A100 marks a milestone for Cambridge, incorporating a miniaturised Class AB amplifier with broadly the same topology as the CX Series and Edge Series amplifiers, but in a truly wireless form factor. Combined with precisely tuned 10mm neodymium drivers, the result is a more refined, musical performance with deeper bass, richer mids and clearer highs than typically expected from in-ear headphones.
Also on board is LDAC and aptX Lossless support for high-resolution wireless playback, alongside aptX Adaptive and AAC, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of devices and streaming quality levels (resolution, codecs and file formats). A new patented technology called DynamEQ automatically adjusts the frequency response at lower volumes to maintain a balanced, natural sound, similar to classic loudness contouring, but applied more intelligently.
Noise cancellation, i.e. suppression of ambient noise, is handled by hybrid Active Noise Cancelling (ANC), which uses both feed-forward and feed-back microphones. In addition, there is a transparency mode for users who still want to hear something from the outside world. For example, runners want to be able to hear traffic sounds in order to run safely.
Designed, tuned and acoustically optimized at Cambridge Audio’s London headquarters, the Melomania A100 reflect over 50 years of hi-fi heritage while meeting the expectations of modern users, according to the designers. The comprehensive Melomania Connect app offers touch controls and advanced EQ tuning, including a seven-band manual equalizer and genre-specific presets.
The Melomania A100 can deliver up to 11 hours of music enjoyment on a single charge (with ANC switched off), with an additional 28 hours in the charging and storage case. For those in a hurry, a 10-minute quick charge will give you three hours of listening pleasure.
Bluetooth 5.4 with Multipoint support allows users to switch seamlessly between two devices, while a six-mic array with ambient noise reduction ensures crisp, clear calls.
