French audio manufacturer B.audio has announced a phono module that can be optionally installed in the Alpha One integrated amplifier and in members of the B.dpr series. Adding this module expands the amplifiers with a customizable phono stage suitable for both MM and MC cartridges.
B.audio: optional phono amplifier
The addition of the phono module allows a turntable to be connected directly to the Alpha One and members of the B.dpr series, eliminating the need for a separate phono preamplifier. According to B.audio, the design utilizes a low-noise input stage with tuned transistors and two-stage passive RIAA equalization.
The module supports both moving-magnet (MM) and moving-coil (MC) pickups. Gain is selectable by type: MM offers +38 dB or +50 dB, and MC offers +58 dB or +70 dB. Settings can be changed directly via the device’s remote control. Load options are also adjustable and include 50 pF, 100 pF, 150 pF, or 200 pF for MM and 33 ohms, 50 ohms, 100 ohms, 150 ohms, or 300 ohms for MC.
The phono module is compatible with the B.dpr One, B.dpr One EX, B.dpr, B.dpr EX preamplifiers, and the Alpha One integrated amplifier. Also read our review of the B.audio Alpha One .
We haven’t yet received pricing and delivery information. The module will be available pre-installed. Retrofitting is also possible, but reportedly will be slightly more expensive.
