The French company Métronome Technologie is presenting the new Kalista DreamPlay S and Kalista DreamPlay SC at Hifideluxe 2026 in Vienna, a small-scale trade fair taking place simultaneously with High End Vienna. The Kalista DreamPlay S is a network player without a DA converter, while the Kalista DreamPlay SC features an on-board DA converter.

High-level streaming

At the Arcotel Kaiserwasser in Vienna, Métronome Technologie presents the world premiere of two new devices from the Kalista (sub)brand at Hifideluxe 2026: the Kalista DreamPlay S and the Kalista DreamPlay SC. Both models are being shown to the public for the first time around High End Vienna 2026 and consistently expand the Kalista DreamPlay series into streaming at an absolute reference level.

The Kalista DreamPlay S is designed for users who already own a high-quality DA converter, while the Kalista DreamPlay SC features a reference-level streaming and DA converter on board. With this, Métronome Technologie views network audio not as an additional feature, but as an independent digital reference source, entirely in line with the style of the French luxury brand. Both models are handcrafted in France, featuring advanced power supplies, broad protocol support, and Kalista's signature choice of materials, and are intended to embody the brand's ambition for a new generation of streaming.

According to the manufacturer, the Kalista brand has long been synonymous with high-quality digital solutions where technology, materials, and design are inextricably linked. The brand, originating from Métronome Technologie, a French manufacturer with a history dating back to 1987, traditionally presents digital sources not as merely functional devices, but as consciously designed objects for uncompromising music reproduction. With the Kalista DreamPlay S and Kalista DreamPlay SC, this approach is now consistently applied to streaming. Yes, the devices have a distinctive and striking design.

Kalista DreamPlay S: Network player WITHOUT DAC

The Kalista DreamPlay S is a network player without a DA converter. The device natively processes linear PCM from 32-bit/44.1 to 384 kHz and DSD64 to DSD256. Linear PCM up to 32-bit/384 kHz and DSD64 to DSD128 are available via DoP (Digital Output) via S/PDIF and AES/EBU, while DSD to DSD256 is natively output via I2S.

Connection to a network can be established via Ethernet and Wi-Fi, and there is USB 2.0 for external storage devices, I2S, S/PDIF, and AES/EBU. A service port is also present, as well as a separate power supply via the Elektra module, which is listed as a standalone device in the technical specifications.

Kalista DreamPlay SC: Network player WITH DAC

The Kalista DreamPlay SC expands the concept with integrated DA conversion. This makes it the ideal solution for users who want to combine streaming and digital signal conversion in a single Kalista system, without needing a separate DA converter. Métronome Technologie has incorporated the ES9039MPRO DAC chip.

According to the technical specifications of the Kalista DreamPlay SC's DA converter, the THD+N has a value of less than -122 dB and a dynamic range of 137 dB. In addition to the digital outputs I2S, S/PDIF, and AES/EBU, the DreamPlay SC offers balanced and unbalanced analog outputs, i.e., both RCA and XLR.

Streaming services and protocols

Both devices support the common streaming services and protocols used daily in audiophile network systems. These include DLNA/UPnP, Audirvana, Spotify Connect, Roon Ready, Deezer, TIDAL Connect, Qobuz Connect, and vTuner.

Qobuz Connect enables the direct transfer of the stream from the Qobuz server to the device, without the smartphone itself acting as the audio source. TIDAL Connect and Spotify Connect perform a similar function for their respective platforms, while Roon Ready enables integration into Roon-based multiroom and music library environments. Audirvına, in turn, is attractive to users who want to combine their local music library, streaming services, and a consciously audiophile playback environment via specialized software.

The Métronome technology also offers support for MQA renderers up to 32-bit/384 kHz. Dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4 and 5 GHz) and Ethernet (10, 100, and 1000 Mbps) are available for networking. External storage devices can be connected via USB 2.0.

Distinctive appearance

With the DreamPlay S and DreamPlay SC, Kalista remains true to its distinctive house style. The flat, sculptural form, the visible use of materials, and the meticulous craftsmanship are clearly aimed at the premium segment. Both models are available in two finishes: Black Pearl and Diamond.

With this, Kalista remains true to its commitment to digital audio technology, not only as a functional device, but as a visible element of a high-quality system. Despite all design considerations, the technical aspects clearly take center stage: low interference, accurate signal transmission, high-quality digital interfaces, and an architecture that views streaming not as a secondary function, but as a central source.

Prices and delivery information

Métronome Technologie presents the new Kalista DreamPlay S and Kalista DreamPlay SC at hifideluxe 2026 in Vienna, which takes place simultaneously with High End Vienna 2026. Pricing and delivery information have not yet been announced.

High-end meets simplicity with the Shanling SM90 — a powerful all-in-one streamer, DAC, and digital hub featuring dual AKM DACs, Android apps, and full connectivity for modern hi-fi systems.

The post Shanling SM90: The streamer that wants to replace everything else appeared first on Stereoindex.com.

There’s a clear shift happening in hi-fi. Fewer boxes. Fewer cables. Less compromise between convenience and sound. The Shanling SM90 lands right in the middle of that movement — a compact, all-in-one digital hub designed to take control of your entire system without diluting the experience.

This isn’t just a streamer. It’s your DAC, your digital pre-stage, your network bridge, and potentially your entire music ecosystem in one solid aluminum chassis.

Built around sound, not just features

At its core, the SM90 runs a dual AKM AK4493S DAC configuration — a setup that leans toward musicality rather than sterile precision. The result is a presentation that feels full-bodied and natural, with enough resolution to satisfy detail hunters without tipping into harshness.

The SM90 runs on Shanling's proprietary Android platform with a 64-bit ARM processor, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of internal storage.

Shanling pairs this with a carefully designed analog stage using OPA1612 op-amps, and a proper linear power supply with a toroidal transformer — something you don’t always see at this price. That alone tells you where the priorities are: clean, stable power and a signal path built for listening, not just measuring.

Android flexibility without the usual frustration

Instead of locking you into a closed system, Shanling gives you an open Android-based platform. That means native apps for Spotify, TIDAL, Qobuz, Apple Music, and Amazon Music, running directly on the device — no workarounds needed.

Performance is handled by a 64-bit ARM platform with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage, which is more than enough for smooth navigation and app use. The interface lives on a sharp 4.96-inch 1080p touchscreen, making it feel closer to a modern smart device than traditional hi-fi gear.

And for those who prefer external control, you still get TIDAL Connect, Qobuz Connect, AirPlay 2, DLNA, and Bluetooth 5.2 with LDAC.

Connectivity that actually makes sense

The SM90 isn’t trying to limit how you use it. It’s designed to sit at the center of everything.

You get:

HDMI ARC for TV integration — a rare but very practical addition

USB DAC, coaxial, and optical inputs for external sources

Balanced XLR and RCA outputs for proper system matching

USB, coaxial, and optical digital outputs if you want to use an external DAC

Storage is equally flexible. There’s an M.2 SSD slot inside, support for USB drives up to 2TB, and full NAS compatibility over network. Add Wi-Fi 6 and Gigabit LAN, and it’s ready for anything from casual streaming to serious local libraries.

<img decoding="async" class="size-full wp-image-561878" src="https://stereoindex.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Pasted-27.jpg" alt="The design utilizes a linear power supply with a 35W toroidal transformer.
A cleaner, smarter system

What makes the SM90 interesting isn’t just what it does — it’s what it replaces.

Instead of stacking a streamer, DAC, network bridge, and maybe even a preamp, this single unit can handle all of it. And it does so without feeling like a compromise box.

The sound leans slightly on the musical side of neutral, the feature set is genuinely complete, and the user experience feels modern in a way hi-fi often doesn’t.

Shanling SM90 specifications

Price

At around $969, the Shanling SM90 hits a sweet spot. It’s not entry-level, but it’s far from ultra high-end pricing — and yet it delivers a level of integration and usability that many pricier setups still struggle with.

If you’re building a modern hi-fi system and want fewer boxes without sacrificing sound quality, the SM90 makes a very strong case for itself.
The post Shanling SM90: The streamer that wants to replace everything else appeared first on Stereoindex.com.

Fosi Audio is clearly aiming at a sweet spot with the new S3—a compact, all-in-one streaming solution that doesn’t just tick boxes, but actually solves a real-world problem: how to build a clean, modern hi-fi system without stacking boxes.

At its core, the S3 combines a network streamer, DAC, and preamplifier into a single, understated chassis. That means you can run it straight into a power amp or a pair of active speakers and call it a day. No clutter, no unnecessary complexity—just a streamlined signal path built for how people actually listen today.

Small box, serious signal chain

Under the hood, Fosi hasn’t cut corners. The S3 is built around the well-regarded AKM4493SEQ DAC, capable of handling PCM up to 32-bit/384 kHz. The analog stage uses OPA1612 op-amps in a fully balanced circuit, with ELNA capacitors and a low-noise LDO power supply keeping everything clean and stable.

It’s a thoughtful design—separating digital and analog sections to minimize interference, and offering proper XLR outputs for those running balanced setups. In other words, this isn’t just “feature-rich”—it’s properly engineered.

Streaming without limitations

Where the S3 really starts to shine is on the streaming side. Pretty much everything is covered: AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, Google Cast, DLNA, and even Roon Ready support. Whether your music lives on a NAS, in the cloud, or on your phone, the S3 plugs straight into your ecosystem without friction.

Control happens through Fosi’s own app, which includes playback management and a built-in 5-band EQ for those who like to fine-tune their sound.

Connectivity is equally flexible, with dual-band Wi-Fi, Ethernet, and Bluetooth 5.3 onboard. It’s the kind of versatility that makes the S3 feel less like a component—and more like the central brain of a modern system.

<img decoding="async" class="size-full wp-image-561736" src="https://stereoindex.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Pasted-1.jpg" alt="The Fosi Audio S3 features dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.3, and Ethernet, supports 12V trigger synchronization, and features overload protection. Its compact design allows it to be used as a network source in a desktop or home audio system.

Not just for music

Interestingly, Fosi is also leaning into the idea that hi-fi systems shouldn’t live in isolation. The inclusion of HDMI eARC means you can hook the S3 directly to your TV and use your stereo setup for film and series audio—no AV receiver required.

There’s even a dedicated subwoofer output, making it easy to build a compact but capable 2.1 system.

Designed for real-world systems

With its compact footprint and clean layout, the S3 fits just as naturally on a desktop as it does in a living room rack. Add 12V trigger support and protection circuits, and it’s clear Fosi is thinking about integration—not just specs.

British hi-fi brand Leak continues its quiet but confident comeback with the introduction of the Leak TruStream, the company’s first dedicated music streamer. After successfully reviving its reputation with products such as the Stereo 130 integrated amplifier and the CDT CD transport, Leak now expands its lineup into the world of high-resolution network audio—an essential component of today’s audiophile systems.

The TruStream blends Leak’s unmistakable vintage design language with modern digital technology, aiming to deliver the convenience of streaming without compromising the musical character that has long defined the brand.

The Leak TruStream combines vintage hi-fi design with modern streaming technology, featuring a walnut cabinet and aluminum chassis.

A Modern DAC at the Core

At the heart of the Leak TruStream sits the highly regarded ESS Sabre ES9038Q2M DAC, one of the most capable converter chips used in contemporary high-end digital audio. Built on ESS Technology’s HyperStream II architecture, the DAC is paired with the company’s Time Domain Jitter Eliminator, a technology designed to reduce timing errors that can blur musical detail and compromise accuracy.

Leak has also implemented an active post-filter stage, carefully tuned to extract the full performance potential of the DAC. According to the company, this approach helps maximize dynamic range and preserve subtle musical nuances, ensuring that high-resolution recordings maintain their depth, clarity, and realism.

High-Resolution Streaming Platform

For its streaming engine, Leak has partnered with Silent Angel, utilizing the same network platform found in the Mission 778S streaming amplifier. This platform enables the TruStream to handle extremely high-resolution audio formats, including PCM up to 32-bit/768 kHz and DSD up to DSD512, making it capable of reproducing even the most demanding digital files.

Inside the Leak TruStream is an ESS ES9038Q2M DAC with HyperStream II architecture, delivering high-resolution playback up to 32-bit/768 kHz PCM and DSD512.

The streamer integrates seamlessly with today’s major streaming ecosystems. Support includes TIDAL Connect, Qobuz Connect, Spotify Connect, AirPlay 2, and TuneIn internet radio, alongside Silent Angel’s own radio service. For users with local music libraries, the TruStream also supports UPnP/DLNA playback from network servers and carries Roon Ready certification, allowing it to function as a high-quality endpoint within a Roon-based system.

Versatile Connectivity for Modern Systems

Leak has designed the TruStream to integrate easily into a wide range of audio systems. The unit provides both balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA outputs, allowing direct connection to integrated amplifiers or preamplifiers. Digital outputs are also available via optical and coaxial connections, enabling the streamer to function as a transport for external DACs.

Additional connectivity includes a USB-C audio input and dual USB-A ports for attaching external storage devices containing music libraries. For personal listening, Leak has also included a 6.35 mm headphone output, making the TruStream a versatile digital hub for both speaker-based and headphone systems.

With balanced XLR, RCA, digital outputs, and broad streaming support including TIDAL Connect and Roon Ready, the Leak TruStream fits easily into modern audiophile systems.

Classic Leak Styling

While its internal technology is thoroughly modern, the TruStream’s appearance pays homage to Leak’s mid-century heritage. The component features a walnut-finished cabinet paired with a brushed aluminum chassis, echoing the visual identity that made Leak products so recognizable during the golden era of hi-fi.

This combination of retro aesthetics and contemporary streaming functionality reflects Leak’s broader philosophy: preserving the charm of classic hi-fi design while delivering the performance and convenience demanded by modern listeners.

Price and Availability

The Leak TruStream is expected to become available in April 2026, with a suggested retail price of €1,199 / $1,495. Positioned as a premium yet accessible network streamer, it aims to bring high-resolution streaming, broad platform compatibility, and timeless design together in a single elegant component—an appealing proposition for both longtime Leak fans and newcomers building modern audiophile systems.
The post Leak TruStream: A Premium Network Streamer for Modern Audiophile Systems appeared first on Stereoindex.com.

If you think about it, it's actually quite remarkable: that inexhaustible wealth of music at your fingertips via the internet. With a network connection, a subscription, and a suitable streamer, you have access to virtually all the music in the world. While we used to question the supposedly inferior sound quality of streaming, streaming audio is now the standard. High-quality streamers are plentiful, and ease of use blends seamlessly with musical excellence.

A music streamer converts data collected via the network into music. For maximum resolution and stability, we prefer to do this via a wired network connection. However, this also connects the streamer directly or indirectly to all other equipment in the house. Besides the desired electrical connection, this also creates a potential path for contamination and unwanted potential differences on the ground.

This can limit the final quality of the signal processing – and from the perspective of pure music enjoyment, that's a shame. That's why Matrix Audio developed the SI-1 Network Audio Isolator: an active, optical network isolator designed for the purest network audio.

Matrix Audio the SI-1 Network Audio Isolator

The Matrix Audio SI-1 is a high-performance network isolator with one RJ-45 1Gb input and one RJ-45 output, fully isolated internally via a unique dual-channel optical isolation. Featuring an internal linear power supply, dual femtosecond clock circuits, and an all-aluminum enclosure, the SI-1 works tirelessly to optimally isolate your music streamer from pollution and interference.

Matrix Audio has specialized in high-quality music streamers and DACs for years. Thanks to extensive research and advanced measurement equipment, they understand the impact of unwanted interference like no other. With a music streamer, the network connection is not only the source of the music but also a potential source of noise. This noise can affect the reconstruction of the music signal, regardless of the quality of the streamer itself. Minimizing susceptibility to interference is therefore the foundation of every Matrix Audio design. However, the quality of a chain still depends on its weakest link. That's why Matrix Audio previously developed the SS-1 and SS-1 Pro: audiophile network switches that demonstrate the brand's serious approach to network noise.

With the new SI-1, Matrix Audio takes the next step toward ultimate purism by opting for complete galvanic isolation between the music streamer and the network. The SI-1 fulfills three core functions: galvanic isolation against network noise, data transmission optimization, and surge protection.

What makes the SI-1 truly unique is its active optical-electrical isolation technology. The input is electrically connected to the home network via an RJ45 network cable. Internally, this electrical signal is converted into an optical signal via specialized optical transmitters—two to be precise: one for upstream and one for downstream. This galvanic isolation breaks the direct electrical connection between the input and output, thus eliminating the path for contamination. The result is exceptionally clean network transmission.

Unlike many other network isolation products, which rely on an external switching power supply, the Matrix Audio SI-1 features an internal linear power supply. A toroidal transformer with multiple independent DC regulation circuits provides the basis for a clean and stable DC voltage supply to the optical transmitters and the femtosecond clock circuits. These clock circuits ensure optimal timing of the digital data, minimizing transmission errors and jitter. In this way, the SI-1 guarantees data integrity while actively blocking contamination.

The SI-1 features two 1 Gbps RJ45 ports, with the output fully isolated from the input. Optical isolation not only eliminates harmful interference but also provides protection against harmful surges. Whether it's lightning strikes, power surges, electrostatic discharge, or persistent mains noise, the SI-1 provides a robust protective barrier for the connected equipment.

In many systems, the SI-1 will operate quietly and anonymously. Yet, it deserves to be seen. The enclosure is milled from solid aluminum and features the signature Matrix Audio perforation pattern. Measuring 12 cm wide, over 20 cm deep, and approximately 4.5 cm high, and weighing 1.5 kg, it stands firmly in place—even when connected with a high-quality power cable. Its solid construction makes it not only aesthetically pleasing but also impervious to external radiation. This is a clear choice that underscores the lengths Matrix Audio is willing to go to achieve the purest possible sound reproduction.

The SI-1's impact on a balanced hi-fi system is anything but subtle. It's like looking at your television with cleaner glasses—but for your audio system.

Nothing is added or exaggerated; everything is simply more clearly defined and presented with greater contrast. Sounds flow more naturally, lose their sharpness, and the spatial image gains in realism. You're more immersed in the music, and that's ultimately what it's all about. The Matrix Audio SI-1 Optical Network Isolator is available immediately from stock with a suggested retail price of €899.
The post Matrix Audio SI-1: Optical Network Isolator That Cleans Up Your Streamer’s Sound appeared first on Stereoindex.com.

In a world where all-in-one devices dominate the conversation, iFi Audio takes a more purist route. The new ZEN Stream 3 doesn’t try to be everything—it focuses on doing one job exceptionally well: bringing high-quality streaming into established hi-fi systems without compromising their character.

For many audiophiles, the system is already complete. The amplifier is dialed in, the DAC is carefully chosen, and the speakers are part of a long-term relationship. What’s often missing is seamless access to today’s streaming ecosystem. That’s exactly where the ZEN Stream 3 positions itself—as a dedicated bridge between classic hi-fi and modern digital playback.

<img decoding="async" class="size-full wp-image-560995" src="https://stereoindex.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Pasted.jpg" alt="The new streaming engine expands native support to include Qobuz Connect, among other things, while simultaneously improving the platform's stability and user interface. Music can be controlled directly from within the respective apps, making the streamer virtually invisible in everyday use.

A focused approach

Rather than integrating a DAC or amplification stage, the ZEN Stream 3 is built purely as a streaming transport. This deliberate design choice keeps the signal chain clean and flexible, allowing users to pair it with their preferred external DAC.

It becomes the digital hub of the system—handling everything from network access and streaming services to local file playback via NAS or USB storage. By separating duties, iFi ensures that each component in the chain can perform at its best.

The third-generation platform introduces a more robust and streamlined streaming architecture. Native support now includes:

Qobuz Connect

TIDAL Connect

Spotify Connect

Apple AirPlay 2

DLNA/UPnP streaming

Control happens directly through familiar apps, making the device effectively invisible in daily use. There’s no need to learn a new ecosystem—music flows through the interfaces users already rely on.

<img decoding="async" class="size-full wp-image-560996" src="https://stereoindex.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Pasted-1.jpg" alt="The iFi ZEN Stream 3 supports a wide range of current streaming protocols, including Qobuz Connect, TIDAL Connect, Spotify Connect, and Apple AirPlay 2. As a DLNA-certified streaming solution, it also supports UPnP.

Under the hood, the system builds on an open-source foundation derived from Volumio, but heavily customized by iFi. The result is a more stable, tightly optimized environment with reduced background processes and improved data handling—key factors for consistent, high-quality playback.

Hardware

Even as a digital device, the ZEN Stream 3 reflects iFi’s typically obsessive attention to signal integrity.

A redesigned power supply stage uses upgraded polymer capacitors alongside ELNA Silmic II components, aiming to deliver cleaner current and reduce noise at the source. The goal isn’t coloration—it’s stability, which translates into smoother treble and a more natural presentation.

On the output side, iFi integrates its iPurifier technology and Active Noise Cancellation, minimizing interference from connected sources. A femto-precision clock further ensures accurate timing, reducing jitter before the signal even reaches the DAC.

For purists, Exclusive Modes take things a step further by disabling unnecessary system processes, dedicating maximum resources to audio playback alone.

Technically, the streaming architecture is based on an advanced open-source platform originating from the Volumio ecosystem. However, iFi Audio has extensively modified this foundation, transforming it into a more independent and closed system.

K2 Technology

One of the more intriguing additions is JVCKENWOOD’s K2 technology, which attempts to reconstruct harmonic information lost during recording or compression.

Rather than dramatically altering the sound, the effect is intended to be subtle—adding body to vocals, improving spatial depth, and reducing the clinical edge that can sometimes accompany digital playback.

Importantly, this processing happens before the DAC stage, meaning any connected converter can benefit from it.

Setup has also been modernized. A new IoT-based system allows quick integration via the iFi Nexis app, turning a smartphone or tablet into a central control hub.

Once configured, the experience is refreshingly straightforward. Browse, queue, and play music across services and libraries without dealing with clunky interfaces or additional hardware.

Price and availability

The iFi ZEN Stream 3 is available now, with a recommended retail price of €399—positioning it as an accessible upgrade for serious systems rather than an entry-level compromise.
The post iFi ZEN Stream 3: The Ultimate Streaming Upgrade for High-End Hi-Fi Systems appeared first on Stereoindex.com.

Cambridge Audio rolls out a major firmware update adding Qobuz Connect and expanded streaming features to StreamMagic devices from 2014. Free update enhances longevity and sustainability of older hi-fi gear.

The post Cambridge Audio Firmware Update Adds Qobuz Connect to StreamMagic Devices Since 2014 appeared first on Stereoindex.com.

Cambridge Audio has released a firmware update that expands streaming functionality on network players released since 2014. The update has been available for free since February 24, 2026, and will be automatically distributed to internet-connected devices.

New features for older Cambridge Audio devices

British manufacturer Cambridge Audio is setting a new standard for durability in the network player market with its latest firmware update. According to the manufacturer, numerous older streaming components with StreamMagic technology will benefit from enhanced streaming capabilities and remain compatible with current apps.

According to the company, devices running the second and third generation of StreamMagic software, i.e., models released from 2014 onwards, will gain additional connectivity features. This includes support for Connect streaming via Qobuz. Users can then select compatible devices on the network directly from the Qobuz app. Music can be played from the Qobuz app on the Cambridge network player without first having to install Cambridge software on their smartphone or tablet.

Lossless streaming via Spotify and Amazon Music integration in the StreamMagic app were already added via a firmware update and are now also available on older platforms. Cambridge Audio states that this guarantees continued full support for one of the longest-running streaming platforms in the audio industry. The firmware update is designed for network players, AV receivers, and streaming preamplifiers from various product lines of the manufacturer. Newer models with the fourth generation StreamMagic already have these features.

Cambridge Audio states that the update strategy is part of a broader sustainability philosophy. In addition to recyclable packaging, the company points to replaceable wear parts in the headphones, which are intended to extend their lifespan.

By continuing to support older streaming devices, the manufacturer is also addressing an industry-wide problem: network-enabled hi-fi components sometimes lose their functionality once apps or services are no longer supported. However, Cambridge Audio emphasizes that its proprietary hardware and software platform allows for continued long-term updates. This further demonstrates that long-term support and sustainability are a manufacturer's priority. A Cambridge device doesn't need to be replaced after just a few years.

“We're investing heavily in our exclusive StreamMagic software platform. Owners of older components will have access to the latest features and all streaming services without the hassle of software updates, as soon as the hardware allows. This way, everyone can experience what sustainability truly means for hi-fi network components,” explains Matthew Dore, the company's Chief Technology Officer.

According to the manufacturer, the firmware update has been available since February 24, 2026. Once devices are connected to the internet, they will automatically detect the update; users simply need to confirm the installation and download.

Example for the industry?

With this update, the London-based manufacturer underscores its commitment to keeping network players and hi-fi components with streaming functionality usable for years to come. For owners of older Cambridge streamers, the update will be a welcome functionality expansion. Other manufacturers should follow this policy.
The post Cambridge Audio Firmware Update Adds Qobuz Connect to StreamMagic Devices Since 2014 appeared first on Stereoindex.com.

Aune has unveiled the N5 EVO, a powerful new network player built with cutting-edge hardware and designed to deliver reference-level sound quality for modern music streaming. Combining high-end components with versatile connectivity, the N5 EVO is engineered to be the centerpiece of any serious Hi-Fi setup.

Precision Hardware at Its Core

At the heart of the N5 EVO lies the ESS9039Q2M DAC, paired with an NXP Cortex-M7 processor, Intel FPGA, and Qualcomm QCC5125 Bluetooth module. This carefully chosen architecture ensures clean and accurate digital-to-analog conversion while supporting advanced wireless playback.

Aune N5 EVO is a new network player designed with an emphasis on precise signal processing and support for modern streaming services.

To further enhance stability, the player incorporates FIFO technology and dual internal PLL generators, minimizing jitter and guaranteeing smooth, detailed sound reproduction.

Tidal is finally saying goodbye to MQA, a closed file format. This has been coming for a while because MQA Ltd. was acquired by Lenbrook after insolvency . Tidal had already erred on the side of caution and embraced the open file format FLAC . As of July 24, 360 Reality Audio and MQA streams will no longer be available via Tidal.

Tidal is done with MQA

Tidal has announced that it will replace its MQA streams with FLAC versions, after introducing the FLAC format last spring to complement its existing MQA offering. Tidal is also immediately eliminating 360 Reality Audio tracks, sticking only with Dolby Atmos as the multi-channel audio format of choice. The changes will take effect on July 24, 2024. All podcasts and music available in 360 Reality Audio will be removed.

So that's the end of MQA and the end of 360 Reality Audio via Tidal. The move isn't terribly surprising. Tidal's days of supporting MQA seemed numbered when it not only added FLAC, but also immediately labeled Tidal FLAC as the “preferred format for high-resolution audio.” Earlier this week, Lenbrook (owner of PSB, NAD, Bluesound and, since September, MQA ) announced it was joining forces with HDTracks to launch a new MQA-powered hi-res service to rival Tidal, Qobuz, Apple Music and Amazon Music.

In a new support document explaining the coming changes, Tidal says it currently has at least 16-bit/44.1 kbps FLAC versions for almost all MQA tracks, but may not have a replacement for every song if MQA disappears. “We are working hard to ensure that all existing MQA tracks are replaced with a FLAC version in a timely manner,” Tidal said.

Subscribers who have downloaded MQA tracks or albums for offline access will need to update their Tidal app to the latest version on July 24th and re-download the tracks in FLAC.

Tidal is also dropping 360 Reality Audio

As for Sony's 360 Reality Audio format, Tidal clarifies in that same document that Dolby Atmos will be the only multi-channel format it supports “due to the number of compatible devices, catalog availability and adoption of the format by artists.” When the changes happen in July, the song or album will be grayed out and no longer available for streaming. Sony's 360 Reality Audio then lives on in Amazon Music and Deezer.

The past year has been all change for Tidal, with the introduction of FLAC and the simplification of the levels, but the landscape now appears stable: “We have no further plans to change our audio format offering in the future, and we remain committed to provide our subscribers with exceptional audio quality,” Tidal concludes.

FLAC is an open file format that has been around for a long time and can be used without having to pay licensing fees. The compression factor is so low and FLAC is so good that the difference with the bit-perfect WAV format is small. There's a good chance that Tidal will stay with FLAC for a long time. There is no company behind FLAC that can collapse or withdraw support at any time. FLAC is completely future-proof and cannot be monopolized. That is an advantage that should not be underestimated.
The post Tidal says “bye bye” to MQA and here’s what that means for subscribers appeared first on Stereoindex.com.

The Matrix Audio TT-1 and NT-1 serve as dedicated audio streaming sources, featuring optimized digital outputs. Users have the flexibility to select a digital-to-analog converter, with compatibility for nearly any DA converter available for connection to the NT-1 and TT-1. Additionally, Matrix Audio has integrated advanced technology into these models, including functionality with the MA Remote app.

The newly launched M-series exemplifies Matrix Audio's commitment to high-end audio excellence, prominently displaying its initials on the chassis's top plate. With an aesthetically pleasing perforation pattern for effective cooling and a large touch screen, the M-series establishes a benchmark for future audio products, characterized by exceptional quality and a distinctive design. Every aspect, from the connection experience to control interaction and sound quality, is meticulously crafted. The designers have ensured that this design philosophy is also reflected in the TT-1 and NT-1 models.

Matrix Audio TT-1

The TT-1 and NT-1 Streaming Audio Transport models represent a return to a more compact and affordable design within the M-series lineup. Among these, the Matrix Audio TT-1 serves as the entry-level option, priced at 2,249 euros. Measuring 28 centimeters in width, the TT-1 matches the dimensions of Matrix Audio's SS-1 Audio Grade Network Switch. The ‘T' in its model designation indicates the beginning of a new product line, which Matrix Audio plans to expand with additional items featuring the same elegant design.

As previously mentioned, the TT-1 functions as a music streamer equipped solely with digital outputs, including Coaxial (RCA), Optical (Toslink), and AES/EBU, along with a dedicated USB-DAC output and an IIS-LVDS output utilizing an HDMI connector. This latter feature is particularly noteworthy when paired with a Matrix Audio DAC that has an IIS-LVDS input, as the I2S audio connection facilitates the shortest possible signal path directly to the DAC chip.

The Matrix Audio TT-1 offers not only digital outputs but also features a LAN port (RJ45) and two USB ports for connecting external storage devices, such as music libraries or a CD drive. This functionality simplifies the process of ripping your own CDs. By connecting a CD drive through the USB port and selecting the recording option on the touch screen, users can easily begin the ripping process. Music files are stored in an SSD slot located at the bottom of the TT-1, allowing users to insert a separate NVMe Protocol SSD. The music is then played back from the internal hard drive using the Matrix Audio Control app.

Aesthetically, the Matrix Audio TT-1 is a stunning music streamer, resembling a compact version of the MS-1, albeit without the DAC. Its large touch screen is user-friendly and displays all pertinent information regarding the currently playing music. The TT-1 can be fully managed through the MA Remote app and serves as a ROON endpoint. The internal design reflects Matrix Audio's commitment to isolation and shielding, ensuring a robust foundation for digital audio signals. Additionally, the TT-1 features an internal switching power supply and is designed to accommodate an external, higher-quality 12V DC power supply for enhanced performance, which is a hallmark of Matrix Audio's offerings.

The Matrix Audio TT-1 music streamer is now available for purchase, with a recommended retail price of $2,249.

Matrix Audio NT-1

The Matrix Audio NT-1 is positioned in a premium category, featuring a suggested retail price of 4,899 euros. The ‘N' in its model designation indicates the introduction of additional products within this range. In terms of dimensions, the NT-1 has a shoulder width of 33 centimeters, similar to the Matrix Audio SS-1 Pro Audio Grade Network Switch. This slightly increased size accommodates an enhanced linear power supply, providing the NT-1 with a more stable foundation for digital signal processing.

Similar to the TT-1, the NT-1 features five digital outputs: Coaxial (RCA), Optical (Toslink), and AES/EBU, along with a dedicated USB-DAC output and an IIS-LVDS output. Additionally, it includes two USB ports for connecting an external CD drive or storage devices, and music can be directly saved on the optional SSD storage located at the bottom. As with the TT-1, the NT-1 is equipped with a well-integrated WiFi antenna and an RJ-45 network connection.

Distinctive to the NT-1 is its SFP port, which provides a fiber optic network connection that enhances value by allowing complete electrical isolation of the audio source from the network. The manufacturer claims that this feature contributes to a more serene listening experience, free from harshness in the music stream. Additionally, it is noteworthy that Matrix Audio's SS-1 and SS-1 Pro Network Switches also feature the same SFP connection. Therefore, even if your home network relies solely on a copper RJ-45 connection, you can still benefit from optimal isolation.

To further cater to audiophiles, the NT-1 includes a connection for an external clock. Utilizing this 10MHz clock input bypasses the internal clock of the NT-1, thereby enhancing the critical timing reference for all digital signal processing. Recognizing the importance of timing, you need not search extensively for the ideal clock, as Matrix Audio has designed the perfect companion for this purpose with the SC-1, which is readily available.

The NT-1 merges Matrix Audio's expertise in streaming audio with refined digital signal processing, all encapsulated in an elegantly designed chassis. It is now available for purchase at a recommended retail price of $4,899.
The post Matrix Audio NT-1 and TT-1: Impressive network players made in China appeared first on Stereoindex.com.

Hifi Rose, a manufacturer of digital audio players, has updated its RS150 model, which has been available for over four years. The new iteration is designated as the RS151, indicating that it closely resembles the RS150. The design team has incorporated customer feedback into the development of the RS151. Notably, the large front-facing touch screen remains a key feature.

The RS151 continues the legacy of its predecessor, the RS150. Engineers in South Korea have dedicated significant effort to enhance the already remarkable features of the RS150. By combining their technical expertise with insights from customer feedback, they have created a streamer that boasts improvements across the board. Additionally, you may want to check out our review of the RS150 from Hifi Rose.

The RS151 offers numerous enhancements compared to the RS150.

The SimAudio Moon Neo 390 features a compact design that integrates a DAC, preamplifier, headphone amplifier, phono preamplifier (MM/MC), and a streaming component. It does not include a built-in power amplifier, necessitating a connection to either active speakers or an external power amplifier. This model is derived from the 350P preamplifier and 380D DAC, merging their capabilities while introducing several key enhancements. Notably, it allows access to music from streaming platforms such as Tidal Masters, Qobuz Sublime+, and Deezer Hi-Fi. The integrated converter is capable of handling PCM up to 32 bit/384 kHz, DSD256, and MQA formats.

The device is Roon Ready certified and features a Bluetooth module with aptX technology. The manufacturer highlights the integrated MiND2 streamer, which supports a variety of popular audio formats and enables streaming from local storage and USB drives. The MiND2 module can transmit any signal, whether from digital or analog inputs, to two identical wireless modules in different zones simultaneously.

Similar to other models in the new Neo series from the Canadian brand MOON, the SimAudio Moon Neo 390 preamplifier incorporates technical and design elements found in the premium Evolution series. When paired with one of the power amplifiers from the Neo line, users can expect a notable enhancement in audio quality compared to integrated amplifiers, particularly in terms of realism, dynamics, richness, and accuracy of timbre reproduction. Audiophiles will appreciate the meticulously designed discrete headphone amplifier section. Additionally, the preamplifier includes a digital-to-analog converter module, facilitating direct connections to digital sources such as computers, DVD or Blu-ray players, and iPod docking stations. For vinyl enthusiasts, an MC/MM phono stage is also available.

SimAudio Moon Neo 390 encompasses essential features, including compatibility with the SimLink connection protocol, a 12 V trigger input, an RS-232 port, and IR ports for seamless integration into smart home systems. Its impressive dynamic and frequency ranges enable the preamplifier to effortlessly reproduce high-resolution audio recordings.
The preamplifier's power supply utilizes two toroidal transformers, each rated at 10 VA, along with a capacitor bank totaling 26,400 μF. Signal levels are managed by a motorized potentiometer, making it inaccurate to suggest that it could be effectively substituted by a board in the DAC. Additionally, the preamplifier features a built-in headphone amplifier. It is worth noting that the DAC boards for both the transport and preamplifier appear to be constructed from different component bases, so a comparative listening test is necessary to determine preference. The SimAudio Moon Neo 390 digital-to-analog converter is designed around the proprietary M-AJiC 32 circuit, which functions in a fully asynchronous 32-bit mode. This circuit incorporates the renowned ESS SABRE 32 Ultra DAC chip, equipped with Hyperstream technology, allowing for the utilization of eight DACs (integrated within this chip) for each playback channel during the conversion process.

The SimAudio Moon Neo 390 features a comprehensive array of digital inputs, including 4 HDMI ports, 2 XLR AES/EBU connections (with one dedicated to AES/EBU), 1 optical input, and 1 USB port. All inputs are capable of handling audio resolutions up to 24 bit/192 kHz. Additionally, the MOON 390 is equipped with a fully digital signal loop Monitor Loop, allowing for the connection of external digital devices, such as a digital signal processor for room correction.

This DAC supports DSD formats up to DSD256 and PCM up to 384 kHz. It includes USB and Ethernet/WiFi connectivity, along with analog outputs that offer both fixed and variable signal levels. The choice of output depends on whether the user employs a preamplifier or connects the DAC directly to an amplifier. The SimAudio Moon 390D Streaming DSD DAC also allows for factory firmware updates and hardware upgrades as needed.

Now, let’s examine some key components of this DAC. The MiND network board and volume control are part of the MiND package, which is now included in the standard 390 offering. The M-eVOL volume control board featured in the 390 is the same as that found in the premium Moon Evolution series.

There are numerous methods available today for streaming music via IP to your DAC. Some manufacturers opt to integrate ready-made solutions from third-party providers into their DACs, while others create external devices that facilitate the conversion of streams for AES or USB inputs. Simaudio, for instance, produces its own network adapter for its Moon product line and has recently launched an iOS app, with an Android version in development. Simaudio's preference for in-house production is evident in the high quality of their work, as demonstrated by the new iOS app. The previous iteration, developed by an external party, was subpar, whereas the latest version features a clean design that enhances user experience. Simaudio refers to this entire system—including the network card, streaming capabilities, and software—as the MOON intelligent Network Device (MiND).

When integrated with a device like the Simaudio Moon Neo 390, MiND transforms it into a UPnP/DLNA player. This functionality enables MiND-equipped Simaudio components to communicate with various UPnP/DLNA servers and control devices. The most straightforward setup using the 390 DSD as a client involves utilizing the iOS app as a control interface alongside UPnP server software on a computer or NAS (Network Attached Storage). During my evaluation, I explored several configurations, including the aforementioned setup and one that utilized JRiver Media Center as the server and JRemote as the control interface. While the JRiver/JRemote pairing offers greater capabilities, it also presents a more intricate setup process.

The MiND iOS application developed by Simaudio is user-friendly and suitable for even the most inexperienced users. The app simplifies the process of selecting an existing MiND component by automatically detecting it on the network. It provides details such as the IP address of the Simaudio device and the firmware version, although this information is likely unnecessary for most users. By clicking the “Update firmware” button, the MiND app manages the update process autonomously. However, a notable drawback is the absence of a progress indicator during firmware updates. The installation screen also displays information for connecting to the WiFi network. For more experienced users, it is worth noting that MiND supports WiFi data transfer standards up to 2.4 GHz 802.11n, accommodating both public networks and those with a hidden SSID (Service Set Identifier). Overall, the settings are straightforward, and beginners need not delve further.

The next feature of the iOS application we will discuss is the selection and playback of tracks. Users can easily choose their preferred UPnP / DLNA server from a convenient drop-down menu, eliminating the need for any additional server information. Simaudio has streamlined the process of selecting and enjoying music, allowing users to find and play their desired content instantly or add it to the beginning or end of the playback queue.

Alternatively, users can opt to play it next. Once the playlist is created, tracks can be removed individually or all at once, and the playback order can be adjusted as needed. While the selection of tracks may not be extensive, the process remains straightforward. It is also important to highlight two features that are not available with third-party applications like JRiver / JRemote: the ability to control volume and select the active digital input directly through the iOS app. The sound control functions similarly to using an IR remote, with the key difference being that the control signal is transmitted over an IP network. Overall, I rate the new app highly for its user-friendliness, simplicity, and its capacity to enable users to enjoy music without requiring advanced technical knowledge.

Simaudio excels in creating durable products that remain relevant despite the introduction of new models. The SimAudio Moon Neo 390 alleviates any concerns previously mentioned, allowing users to experience outstanding sound quality. This product is highly recommended for audiophiles who struggle with indecision, uncertainty, and anxiety regarding sound performance. Please note that extended listening sessions exceeding four hours are common with Simaudio equipment.

Lumin Music, based in Hong Kong, has utilized its existing T3 network player as the foundation for the new T3X model. A key enhancement of the T3X is its incorporation of a linear power supply featuring a substantial toroidal transformer. Additionally, the T3X includes a second USB-A port and offers both an RJ45 LAN connection and a fiber optic connection. The design of the housing remains consistent with Lumin's established aesthetic.

While switching power supplies are known for their efficiency and ability to produce high-quality results, many audiophiles and music enthusiasts express a preference for devices equipped with linear power supplies. In response to this demand, Lumin has introduced the T3X, which replaces the previous switching power supply with a linear alternative.

The new fiber optic network connection offers complete galvanic isolation of the network. Fiber optic cables can pick up and transmit absolutely no electrical noise. The RJ45 LAN connection for UTP cables from the original T3 has been retained. This offers the possibility to use the T3X as a network switch. One connection can be used for connecting to a router and the other for connecting to a Lumin L1/L2 or NAS. Another major improvement is the placement of a second USB-A port. The dual ES9028Pro SABRE DAC chips with dual-mono operation have been retained.

Goldmund has launched a new network player, marking its entry into the streaming market. Recognizing its limited experience in streaming and network technology, the Swiss manufacturer has teamed up with the Dutch firm Pink Faun. This partnership has resulted in the development of the Goldmund x Pink Faun Eidos streamer.

The designers emphasize that the Goldmund x Pink Faun Eidos Streamer is tailored for audiophiles who seek superior sound quality along with seamless control. This collaboration represents Goldmund's inaugural foray into streaming, underscoring the company's commitment to innovation and outstanding performance.

The Eidos Streamer is designed to seamlessly complement Goldmund ’s active speakers and meets the growing demand for online music playback. With a wired or wireless network connection, the Eidos provides a hassle-free listening experience. Incidentally, the owner of a large local music library has also been considered. The Eidos Streamer has 8TB of local storage available. Via the intuitive Roon app, users can also access popular music streaming platforms such as Tidal, Qobuz and KKBOX, providing unlimited access to music.

To further enhance the listening experience, the setup can be expanded with a handmade S/PDIF RCA digital audio cable from Fono Acustica in Spain. This ensures flawless signal transmission and sound quality.

At the heart of the Eidos Streamer is the Pink Faun OS, designed exclusively for optimum Roon Core compatibility. This operating system ensures complete control over hardware and software integration, offers regular updates and driver optimizations for evolving performance, and provides solutions to traditional Roon limitations, delivering a flawless experience for demanding users.

Exclusive Goldmund customizations ensure optimal operating system performance, such as CPU timings, noise adjustment, and integration with Goldmund active speakers.

German manufacturer T+A has introduced the MP 200 G3, an enhancement of the well-regarded 200 series. This advanced multi-source player features the innovative Audiophile Streaming Architecture (ASA) G3. It offers exceptional sound quality, cutting-edge streaming capabilities, and refined signal processing, all within a compact design.

“Our ASA G3 represents one of the key technological developments of recent years, which we are now gradually integrating into new and existing products. As with the R and HV series, ASA is preparing the MP 200 G3 for the second phase of its product life cycle,” explains spokesman Dave Nauber on the occasion of the presentation of the new MP 200 G3 Multi Source Player.

The new ASA G3 enables exceptionally versatile use of the MP 200 G3. Music can be streamed directly from a smartphone or tablet to the device using services such as Tidal Connect, Spotify Connect and Apple AirPlay 2. In addition, the streaming architecture supports high-resolution formats, including native streaming of DSD files without conversion, ensuring lossless sound reproduction. The MP 200 G3 also has a slot-in CD transport on board.

Currently, Roon Ready certification is being worked on and, once obtained, will further expand the range of functions of the device in the future. With a new motherboard and the integration of the Gracenote music service, signal processing has been further improved, so that, for example, album art and background information can be displayed in the T+A MusicNavigator G3 app.

The MP 200 G3 is equipped with an FM tuner. Furthermore, the MP 200 G3 is a fully digital device without analogue connections. Digital music signal comes out via a digital cinch connection.

T+A MP 200 G3: durability through upgrade options

T+A is underlining its sustainability strategy by upgrading the previous MP 200 model to the ASA G3 from spring 2025. This update includes new hardware components and specially adapted operating software. Booking upgrade appointments is possible via authorized specialist dealers or directly with T+A. According to T+A, the demand for upgrading existing devices is high. Yes, there is also a downside, because due to the high demand, customers often have to wait some time before the upgrade can be carried out.

T+A MP 200 G3: price and delivery information

The T+A MP 200 G3 is expected to be available for delivery later this month in a silver anodized and black anodized version. The suggested retail price is just under $5,500.

Volumio has created an enhanced iteration of the well-received Rivo, taking into account user feedback.

The post Volumio Rivo+: Multifunctional network player appeared first on Stereoindex.com.

Volumio has introduced the Rivo+, also referred to as Rivo Plus. This latest model is an enhanced and revamped iteration of the popular Rivo Streaming Bridge. As stated by Volumio, the Rivo+ is tailored for audio aficionados seeking to maximize the sound quality of their audio setups. The new version not only aligns with the elevated expectations of Volumio's clientele but has also been influenced by a variety of feedback and improvement suggestions from the community.

The Rivo+ is equipped with a number of new features that further improve the sound quality and provide users with additional possibilities to customize their audio devices. The most important innovations include a 12V Trigger Out connector to switch on/off other compatible devices. This allows for seamless control of the entire audio system. Furthermore, there is an I2S/DSD-over-HDMI interface. A frequently expressed request from users was the integration of the I2S-over-HDMI interface, which is already used in Volumio's high-end product “Motivo”. This interface allows the connection of external DACs, thus creating a sonically superior connection for certain DAC models compared to traditional connections such as S/PDIF or AES-EBU.

The Rivo+ impresses with significantly improved hardware features that enable even more precise audio output. While in the original Rivo the signals were generated directly by the Amlogic SoC, in the Rivo+ a special ASIC takes over this task. By relieving the CPU and using an active MEMS clock and extremely low-noise linear controllers, a particularly high-quality output signal is created.

The Rivo+ offers impressive audio performance with digital coaxial S/PDIF output and AES/EBU output at up to 24-bit192kHz PCM and DSD64 resolution. The I2S output via HDMI even reaches up to 32-bit/768kHz PCM and DSD256.

The Rivo+ is compatible with a diverse array of audio formats, including DSD, WAV, FLAC, Alac, and others. Users can effortlessly manage music playback and settings through an intuitive app or web browser. It also features seamless integration with popular streaming services like Spotify, Tidal, Qobuz, and Bandcamp, providing access to a vast selection of music and content. With support for Airplay, Bluetooth 5.0, and built-in plug-ins, users can conveniently and flexibly enhance their music library.

In the senior model of the Naim NDX 2 network players, the PCM1791A DAC is responsible for digital-to-analog conversion, but it has an improved power supply, and the current/voltage converter and the entire analog path with an extended bandwidth are made on discrete elements, like in classic Naim preamplifiers. It took the developers six months to fine-tune it. Instead of standard filtering algorithms, they use their own, written by Naim programmers.

The Naim NDX 2 streamer has a large 5-inch TFT display (which can be switched off if desired), a four-button front panel control interface unified with the Uniti models, and a ZigBee RF remote control with a wide range of operation. The streamer accepts files with a resolution of up to 32/384 and DSD 64/128 via UPnP, and up to 24/192 via all four SPDIF inputs.

The Naim NDX 2 model has a new display and control system – via a large 5-inch TFT display, a four-button control interface from the front panel unified with Uniti, and a “smart” ZigBee remote control. The new product also differs from its predecessor NDX by a different hardware and network platform NP800 (already tested in the Uniti series). It provides extended support for audio formats, is capable of working with 32-bit/384 kHz data, and is equipped with multi-room functions. But perhaps the main thing in the new architecture is a different organization of the path. Musical data from all devices and multi-room streams first flows into the central processor, undergoes deep processing, and only then goes to conversion and amplification.

This allows you to reduce the signal path to a minimum and put all content sources (NAS storage, flash drives, local hard drives, external network music services, mobile devices, etc.) on an equal footing. Of course, the platform is also open for further upgrades. Today it works with streaming services Google Cast, Tidal, Spotify, is compatible with Apple AirPlay and Bluetooth aptX HD interfaces, is ready to work in the Roon environment, and tomorrow its list of functions may be supplemented by support for new formats, services and protocols.

The network card installed in the Naim NDX 2 is our own design, operating using low-voltage differential signaling (LVDS) technology. The logical unit in it is counted not from zero potential, but from +1.2 V, and it is ten times smaller than the standard 3.3 V. This method provides less noise and interference and is better suited for broadband transmission. In addition, NDX 2 uses an even more powerful 40-bit SHARC processor for deep and highly accurate processing of data received in various formats.

Then the signal, converted to I2S format, is transmitted separately for the right/left channels to the DACs, which are Burr-Brown PCM1792A converters. But there is a nuance here: instead of standard filtering algorithms, proprietary ones written by Naim programmers are used. And a separate discrete current/voltage converter follows the converter.

Another, perhaps the most important difference between this model and the younger one is the ability to connect external power supplies XPS DR or NAPS 555 DR – both with low-noise discrete stabilizers. At the same time, the sound resolution increases, the volume of the stage space expands.

When you hook up the R-CD100 to devices like the Ruark R410, R610, or R810, you'll see the transport show up as an option in the source list of the connected device.

The new CD transport from English manufacturer Ruark Audio is designed to complement the British brand's 100 series products. Ruark Audio has focused on creating a range of stylish all-in-one audio systems, table radios and DAB radios, but there are still billions of CDs in circulation that need to be played. The R-CD100 naturally aims to meet that need.

The Ruark Audio CD transport is only a transport and does not have a DA converter on board. When the R-CD100 is connected to devices such as the Ruark R410 , R610 or R810 , the transport will appear as an option in the source list of the device it is connected to. DA conversion is then handled by the device connected to the R-CD100.

The R-CD100 looks good, better than your average optical drive sold in a computer store. The R-CD100 has precision-machined top and bottom platters with a hand-crafted walnut cabinet sandwiched between them. Underneath the aluminum top platter is what Ruark claims is a high-quality slot-loading CD drive, coupled with what the manufacturer claims is a custom CD servo to USB interface. Additionally, Ruark claims, the specially designed cabinet isolates the CD mechanism from external vibrations, resulting in better sonic performance.

The R-CD100 gets its power from a USB cable. Apart from pressed CDs, the R-CD100 can also read self-burned CDs.

Delivery will start at the end of November. The Ruark Audio website lists a price of 249 British pounds.
