The new generation of the fuel model Audi A6 was presented a month and a half ago, but then only the Avant station wagon debuted for Europe. Now it has been joined by a classic sedan, and this is not a local variety for the Chinese market, but a full-fledged global model. What is no less important is that for the fuel “six” Audi has retained the classic four-door format, while the electric car Audi A6 e-tron can only be five-door (liftback or station wagon).
There are no unexpected surprises in the design: the sedan is designed exactly the same as the station wagon. Even the rear lights with a continuous LED strip in the middle are almost the same. But thanks to the sloping roof, the sedan turned out to be more streamlined than the station wagon: the Cd coefficient is 0.23 versus 0.25. That is, this is the most aerodynamically efficient fuel model in the history of Audi. Compared to the previous generation, the sedan has become 60 mm longer (4999 mm), but the width is now 6 mm less (1880 mm). The wheelbase has practically not changed with the change of generation: 2927 mm instead of 2924 mm. Depending on the configuration, the wheels have a diameter of 18 to 21 inches.
Like the A6 Avant station wagon, the interior of the new sedan is designed according to all modern Audi canons. The front panel is equipped with two screens in a single curved housing: an 11.9-inch instrument screen and a 14.5-inch multimedia screen. A third 10.9-inch screen in front of the passenger is available as an option. Optionally, there is a projection onto the windshield, four-zone climate control, and a Bang & Olufsen audio system with surround sound (16 or 20 speakers). The trunk volume is 492 liters versus 565 liters in the previous model. But the impressive width of the compartment (1050 mm) has been preserved, and the back of the rear sofa folds in a 40:20:40 ratio.
There are no technical differences from the station wagon. The entry-level Audi sedans are equipped with a 2.0 TFSI petrol turbo four (204 hp, 340 Nm), a simple 12-volt starter-generator (responsible for the start-stop system) and only front-wheel drive. Cars with a 2.0 TDI turbodiesel (204 hp, 400 Nm) and a V6 3.0 TFSI petrol turbo engine (367 hp, 550 Nm) are equipped with the MHEV Plus hybrid system. It includes a 48-volt starter-generator with a belt drive and a separate traction electric motor (24 hp, 230 Nm), which is attached to the gearbox. It is powered by a 1.7 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, which is located in the trunk (in this case, the volume of the compartment is reduced to 452 liters). All three versions have a seven-speed S tronic “robot” with two clutches. Quattro all-wheel drive is an option for diesel cars and basic equipment for sedans with a V6 engine.
Like other models on the PPC platform, the new Audi A6 is equipped with brakes with electric booster. In addition to the basic spring suspension, you can choose a lowered sports (minus 20 mm) or air (clearance varies in the range of 50 mm). All-wheel steering is an option for all-wheel drive versions (the rear wheels can deviate at an angle of up to 5 degrees), and for six-cylinder cars you can order an active rear differential.
Audi A6 sedans will be manufactured in Germany at the Neckarsulm plant, i.e. on the same conveyor as the station wagons. Orders in Europe will be accepted any day now, prices are already known – from 55,500 euros in Germany. The first production cars will arrive to customers in mid-summer. In the future, Audi A6 sedans will appear in other world markets.
