Samsung Q7F Review: Affordable QLED 4K TV with Vibrant Colors and Smart Features

The Samsung QE65Q7F is a budget-friendly QLED TV that delivers rich, vibrant colors, immersive 3D audio, and a robust smart platform. As the entry-level model in Samsung’s QLED lineup, the Q7FA series offers a compelling alternative to traditional LCD TVs, thanks to its Quantum Dot technology, which enhances clarity and color accuracy.

Value-Packed QLED 4K HDR TV

At the heart of the QE65Q7F is Samsung’s Quantum 4K AI processor, which intelligently optimizes both image and sound for an enhanced viewing experience. The TV offers a wide range of streaming options and extensive connectivity, making it a versatile centerpiece for any home theater setup.

Design and Build Quality

Samsung maintains a premium feel despite using a plastic chassis, with solid construction evident throughout. From the front, the TV appears sleek and thin, though it measures just over 6 cm thick at its deepest point, making it slightly bulkier when viewed from the side. This thickness is generally unnoticeable when placed on a stand.

The QE65Q7F supports VESA wall mounts (400 x 300 mm), but the mounting bracket is sold separately. The included feet can be installed either centrally or toward the edges of a cabinet or media console, with adjustable height to accommodate a soundbar underneath.

Included with the TV is Samsung’s Premium Solar Smart Remote, which charges via built-in solar cells, eliminating the need for frequent battery replacements. The remote is ergonomically designed, featuring numerous buttons and intuitive controls.

Features and Smart TV Experience

The Q7FA series impresses with features typically found in higher-end models. Powered by Samsung’s Tizen OS, the smart platform provides access to all major streaming services — including Disney+, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Apple TV — along with the option to download additional apps from the Samsung App Store. Notably, the TV supports cloud gaming through GeForce Now.

Samsung economized slightly on the tuner setup, equipping the TV with a single tuner rather than dual tuners. This limitation means you can’t change channels while recording content to a USB device, but it’s unlikely to impact typical daily use.

Performance is smooth, with fast app launches and responsive channel switching. However, the TV’s refresh rate is capped at 60Hz. While this is sufficient for movies and regular TV, it may fall short for fast-paced gaming. Connecting a PlayStation 5 or similar console automatically triggers Game Mode, reducing input lag to an impressive 7 milliseconds. Unfortunately, the TV does not support 120Hz gameplay or Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), but Samsung’s Game Motion Plus feature helps smooth out motion.

The minimalist remote control takes some getting used to for users accustomed to traditional remotes, but it quickly becomes second nature. It also supports voice and gesture control, adding modern convenience.

Sound Quality

Sound performance is adequate for everyday viewing, with two 10-watt speakers located at the base of the TV. Dialogue remains clear, but bass and treble lack depth, which is common for TVs in this price range. For richer, more immersive sound — especially in movies and gaming — a soundbar is highly recommended. Keep in mind that the QE65Q7F does not support Dolby Atmos.

Picture Quality

The QE65Q7F delivers natural and accurate colors thanks to its QLED Quantum Dot panel and precise factory calibration, closely matching the ideal 6500 Kelvin color temperature for lifelike visuals.

Its peak brightness reaches around 600 nits, which is sufficient for vivid HDR content but falls short compared to premium Mini-LED TVs. Peak brightness is only achieved in HDR mode; in Filmmaker Mode, brightness drops to 420 nits in a 50% white window and just 300 nits for full-screen white scenes.

This model supports HDR10, HDR10+, and HLG, but does not support Dolby Vision. When watching 4K Blu-rays in Intelligent Picture Mode, the TV shines with vibrant colors and notable depth, giving a nearly three-dimensional effect. The lack of local dimming, however, means blacks aren’t as deep as on higher-end models.

Viewing angles are stable, allowing viewers off to the side to enjoy consistent color and contrast.

Although the TV only has a plastic case, it is still of high quality, and this is noticeable.
