This week, Fujifilm will release a new compact APS-C camera with interchangeable optics — the Fujifilm X-E5. The main characteristics of the model have already been revealed; today, several sources have published the first images of the Fujifilm X-E5. The full specifications of the future new product have also been announced. The cost of the camera will be $1,649 .
The new camera from Fujifilm will inherit several advanced hardware and software characteristics at once. In particular, the 40 megapixel matrix from the top Fujifilm X-T5, as well as the IBIS matrix stabilization. Externally, the new product still has an accentuated functional retro design:
The leaked press release suggests that Fujifilm will be positioning the Fujifilm X-E5 as “the Fujifilm X100VI, enhanced with the creative flexibility of interchangeable lenses.” An interesting marketing move.
It turned out that the Fujifilm X-E5 camera is similar in weight and size to the Fujifilm X100VI model. It has the same functional buttons, controls and user interface. But at the same time, Fujifilm emphasizes, the new product allows the installation of more than 400 X-mount lenses (referring to the company’s proprietary optics).
The new Fujinon XF 23mm F/2.8 R WR lens was also presented along with the camera . It is probably the one shown in the image below:

Another innovation is noted: for the first time in the X series, the new product will receive a dial for selecting film simulation modes.
It provides quick access to Fujifilm’s unique Film Simulation modes that deliver ready-to-use results straight from the camera. In addition, the dial has three customizable settings that allow users to create and save their own recipes for instant recall in the field, according to a press release.
The camera is based on a 40.2 megapixel X-Trans 5 HR matrix and an X-Processor 5 image processor . Indeed, this is the company’s top combination at the moment in the X-mount segment.
This combination provides additional functionality, including a lower base ISO 125 sensitivity and deep learning-based object detection AF. The higher resolution allows the camera to use a two-stop digital teleconverter of 1.4x and 2x.
The camera also has an electronic viewfinder. It has three Surround View modes , which let you choose between black, translucent, or linear outlines. These allow you to show the aspect ratio of the image, as well as what is outside the frame, to better anticipate where objects will be in the frame. There is also a Simple View option , which emulates the viewfinder of an analog film SLR.
