Dolby Laboratories has unveiled its newest automotive advancements at the 2025 Consumer Electronics Show (CES). During the event, Dolby highlighted its progress in the automotive industry by showcasing recent collaborations with prominent manufacturers and suppliers, along with an expanding library of music, audiobooks, podcasts, and audio-visual content that enhances the entertainment options available to consumers in their vehicles.
Dolby Atmos in your car
Dolby innovations play a crucial role in enhancing our most beloved forms of entertainment, transforming the experience of enjoying movies, music, and more across various devices. “There is no better environment to experience this pinnacle of entertainment than in a vehicle,” stated John Couling, Senior Vice President of Entertainment at Dolby Laboratories. “We are thrilled with the advancements made over the past year in expanding Dolby Atmos to a wider range of vehicles. At CES, we are highlighting this exciting progress and offering a glimpse into the future of immersive in-car entertainment powered by Dolby Vision.”
The expansion of Dolby in the automotive industry is rapidly gaining momentum following its initial introduction at CES 2023. Over the past year, Dolby has significantly increased the number of automakers integrating Dolby Atmos, rising from 10 to more than 20, including prominent brands such as Cadillac, Li Auto, Mercedes-Benz, Polestar, Rivian, and Volvo Cars. This includes new collaborations announced at CES this week, such as Sony Honda Mobility, which revealed plans to incorporate Dolby Atmos support in its eagerly awaited electric vehicle, AFEELA.
This year at CES, Dolby is showcasing its expanding influence in the automotive sector by highlighting the latest vehicles equipped with Dolby Atmos technology. Attendees at Dolby House, the hub of Dolby’s CES initiatives, will have the opportunity to be among the first to experience the all-new 19-speaker AKG sound system featuring Dolby Atmos in the 2025 Cadillac OPTIQ. This model will be standard for customers and marks the first in the brand’s lineup to incorporate Dolby Atmos.
Additionally, Dolby is collaborating with automotive SoC and DSP manufacturers, including Analog Devices, Inc. (ADI), MediaTek, and NXP Semiconductors, to further integrate Dolby Atmos into a wider range of vehicles. Texas Instruments also announced at CES its commitment to support Dolby Atmos in its new series of chips designed for automakers.
Moreover, Dolby is partnering with various stakeholders to showcase how Dolby Atmos can be implemented in more vehicles, including aftermarket audio solutions. At CES, Pioneer presented the first public demonstration of Dolby Atmos in an aftermarket setup featuring a four-channel speaker system.
The excitement surrounding Dolby Atmos among both industry professionals and consumers is driven by a robust and expanding array of content available in this format. Notably, 93% of the artists featured in Billboard’s 2024 Top 100 Artists have released music in Dolby Atmos, allowing consumers to enjoy this immersive experience during their daily travels. This is complemented by an increasing selection of audiobooks and podcasts accessible through platforms like Audible, which are also available for drivers.
Dolby brings Dolby Vision to cars
CES 2025 will be a significant milestone for Dolby in the automotive sector, marking the introduction of Dolby Vision for Cars. This technology harnesses the same cutting-edge high dynamic range (HDR) capabilities that enhance the visuals of today’s most popular entertainment. Dolby Vision provides stunningly realistic images, showcasing a broader spectrum of colors, true blacks, vibrant highlights, and remarkable detail in your favorite films, streaming series, video games, and live sports. During its technology expo for global partners, Dolby will present the next evolution of in-car entertainment, featuring a demonstration of the world’s first vehicle equipped with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, the Li Auto’s Li MEGA.
In anticipation of CES, Samsung Display, a leading provider of display solutions for the automotive industry, has announced a strategic collaboration with Dolby to expand the availability of Dolby Vision in vehicles worldwide. This partnership will ensure that Samsung Display’s state-of-the-art OLED screens are pre-configured to deliver Dolby Vision, creating an exceptional visual experience through a streamlined evaluation and implementation process for automakers.
