In the nineties, fast street trucks were incredibly popular among Americans, deliberately rejecting off-road values in favor of a stylish appearance. And although the fashion later died down, such cars still have many followers. However, automakers have largely ignored this segment, leaving it to tuning companies. Last year, Ford decided to take up such pickups, releasing a compact Maverick Lobo pickup with an aggressive appearance and hot hatch technology. Now it is joined by a full-size Ford F-150 Lobo truck with a powerful V8 engine.
The creators of the Lobo version claim that they know very well how a real street truck should look, since they themselves are fans of this genre and have seen many cars modified by their owners. Therefore, following the unspoken rules, the F-150 Lobo acquired a rear suspension lowered by 50 mm and an original body kit along the lower perimeter of the body, which is designed to visually reduce ground clearance and make the pickup more “asphalt”.
The front end now features a dotted LED strip and a black radiator grille with large cells (the air intake in the bumper is covered with a similar one). Additional air ducts are located on the raised hood, and two large exhaust pipes are located at the rear. The entire truck is generously flavored with black decor and nameplates with the names of the special version. There are five body colors to choose from. The image is crowned by black wheels with a diameter of 22 inches.
The Ford F-150 Lobo pickup truck is based on the production STX version with a double-row Super Crew cabin. The standard chassis has been reconfigured for more confident driving on asphalt, but the naturally aspirated V8 5.0 engine remains unchanged and still produces 406 hp and 556 Nm. It is paired with a ten-speed automatic and all-wheel drive transmission with a reduction gear.
The main advantage of the Ford F-150 Lobo model over tuning cars, according to its creators, is its completely factory execution with the official warranty preserved. In addition, the surcharge for the Lobo version relative to the basic Ford F-150 STX pickup is quite humane: $4,700. Thus, a serial street truck will cost enthusiasts of this genre a little more than $60 thousand.
