Audiolab 9000P: Impressive flagship stereo power amplifier

Audiolab 9000P 1

The Audiolab 9000P is a premier stereo power amplifier from the esteemed Audiolab 9000 series, featuring a dual mono design and the capability to operate in bridge mode. This amplifier seamlessly integrates into the product line, both aesthetically and acoustically. The power button, LED indicator, and engraved Audiolab logo maintain the cohesive style of the series. On the rear panel, users will find stereo RCA and XLR inputs, along with a 12V trigger input that allows for automatic power on/off in sync with the connected system. Additionally, it is equipped with high-quality gold-plated terminals for speaker connections.

The addition of a dedicated power amplifier in the 9000 series enhances the flexibility of system configurations. While the Audiolab 9000Q preamplifier pairs seamlessly with the Audiolab 9000P, the 9000P can also be directly linked to sources equipped with their own volume controls and pre-outs, like the Audiolab 9000N network streamer. When combined, the 9000N and 9000P create a superb music streaming system—simply connect your speakers!

The Audiolab 9000P leverages the company’s extensive experience accumulated over more than forty years in Class AB amplifier innovation to produce its most advanced power amplifier to date. Utilizing the architecture of the 9000A integrated amplifier, it incorporates a dual-mono design with independent power supplies for each channel, resulting in exceptional detail clarity and a broad, precisely defined stereo soundstage.

The output stage delivers 100W per channel into 8 ohms, utilizing a Complementary Feedback (CFB) circuit that ensures outstanding linearity and thermal stability. The quiescent current is designed to remain unaffected by the temperature variations of the output transistors. A robust, low-noise 320 VA toroidal transformer is paired with a total capacitance of 60,000 µF and four output transistors per channel, specifically calibrated to enhance linearity even under challenging load conditions, with a maximum output current capability of 15 A per channel. This design minimizes overload in the output stage, allowing the remainder of the amplifier to function under optimal conditions. Coupled with its high power handling capacity, the 9000P can effortlessly drive demanding speaker loads, ensuring sufficient power reserves.

The Audiolab 9000P power supply, much like the Audiolab 9000Q preamplifier, features an advanced line voltage filtering circuit that enhances sound quality. This design allows the amplifier to enable speakers to perform with exceptional freedom, maintaining precise control over the music and uncovering intricate details in any recording, irrespective of the volume. Additionally, the Audiolab 9000P provides an upgrade option by allowing the connection of two units in bridge mode, merging the stereo channels into a single mono channel, with each amplifier powering one speaker. This configuration boosts the output power to 300 watts per channel at an 8-ohm load, amplifying sonic power and control while preserving the nuanced sound characteristics of the 9000P.
