The new German brand Stonespell has introduced its first product, the SX-200 compact loudspeakers . It would seem that the next two-way shelf speakers – what can draw attention to such an ordinary acoustics of an unknown brand? For example, the fact that the bodies of these speakers are made of … concrete. The manufacturer claims that the case made of this material is completely inert and not subject to resonances in comparison with wood and MDF. In addition, this is facilitated by a specially designed curved shape of the case.
Stonespell founder and lead designer Christian Heicks chose a six-inch bass-reflex aluminum cone driver capable of reaching 48 Hz at -3 dB to reproduce the mid- and low-frequency range. The crossover frequency is 2.1 kHz, and above and up to 24 kHz comes into operation a ring tweeter with a diameter of 29 mm. The crossover circuit uses high quality MKT and MKP capacitors and large diameter air core coils.
As additional measures to reduce resonances and vibrations, fixing the components of the crossover with a special elastic adhesive and covering the internal wiring with a vibration-absorbing braid was chosen.
The manufacturer declares the sensitivity of the Stonespell SX-200 at 85 dB (1 W / 1 meter) at a nominal resistance of 4 ohms with a minimum of 3.3 ohms achieved at a frequency of 180 Hz. The speaker cabinet measures just 23 x 29 x 27 cm (W x H x D) and weighs 11.2 kilograms per speaker.
The suggested retail price of the Stonespell SX-200 speakers is 2,490 euros per pair, but until January 31, 2023, there is a pre-order discount – the speakers will cost 2,240 euros .
