Sonos has confirmed that the new Era 300 wireless audio system will support playback of Dolby Atmos tracks from the Apple Music streaming service . In addition, this feature is announced for the second generation Sonos Arc and Beam soundbars .
Earlier, when the company introduced the Sonos Era 300 wireless audio system, support for Dolby Atmos spatial audio was highlighted when playing tracks from the Amazon Music service. Regarding a similar opportunity for Apple Music, it was stated that it should appear in the near future. This moment really came very quickly. Dolby Atmos for Apple Music will be available on Sonos Era 300 audio systems on March 28, the same day the new products go on sale. In addition to the Era 300, second-generation Sonos Arc and Beam soundbars will receive this functionality.
If the Sonos Arc soundbar has upward-facing drivers to serve the “ceiling” Dolby Atmos channels, then the more affordable Beam has these channels formed virtually by the DSP through forward-facing drivers.
These three Sonos models will be the first products outside of the Apple ecosystem to support spatial soundtracks in Apple Music, and the Era 300 looks set to compete with the Apple HomePod 2.
